Mr. Talon

i am goin to be racing my bro on a 1/8 drag strip near hear in a couple of weekends, i was wondering what u think the outcome might be

85 Toyota MR2 (non-turbo) - rated 112 hp. mid engine/rwd
-hacked intake can
-K&N filter
Striaght thru 2.25" exhaust with apc mini muffler (his whole exhaust is maybe 2.5' long LOL)
-somewhat of a short shifter
-stock tires/rims

90 Talon (non-turbo) - rated 135 hp. front/fwd
-3" solid intake(can look at my gallery for a pic)
-K&N filter
-disconnected the EGR
-advanced timing
- stock exhaust except for straight pipe and a MAgnaflow race series muffler(2.5" straight thru)
-fairly stock tires/stock rims

that's pretty much it, if i can think of anymroe things, i will post later

i've driven both cars, and they feel very close. the 2 is lighter, but not as strong, but OTOH, my car is strionger but heavier. i still have to take the subs out of car so that will be some lossed weight. also my bro is taken out his pass. seat cuz he's heard that 10lbs out of a 2 is equivalent to 1 hp. anyways, its gonna be me in the talon, and my dad, who from his younger days has plaenty of drag ( ie. street LOL) experience. so the drivers should be close and i think the cars are close, but who do u think will win the 1/8 mile?

Talon Vs. MR2 dun dun duhhhh OMG

ps, i will get al the timelips up on here, and can u fingure out ur 1/4 et by ur 1/8 et?

the gross weights are as follows:

85 MR2 - 2810 lbs.

90 talon - 3571 lbs.

maybe that can help in ur desicion

i've got the owners manual right here, talon fwd =3571, while the AWD= 3929.

anyone have any predictions, also any tips for prerace warm-up (i've heard to shift thru 1-3 a couple times to line everything up)and on the lione. when should i shift, and what should i lanch at? also should a do a little burnout to warm up the rubber, and also what psi should i run in my tires?

thanx

well 1st your owners maunal is wrong there aint a talon out there that wieghs that much. unless of course theyve got the rear hatch loaded with cinder blocks. i mean the AWD models dont even weigh 3500 lbs. your n/a weighs about 2800 lbs. some say its weighs about 3000 lbs. so i really dont know. that mr2 weighs about the same but probabley a little less.

as far as the race is concerned since the cars have close to the same power then it will be more dependent on the driver. if youre good you should beat him. but i think unless you really suck you will beat him.

Just race and post the results. I have been beaten in slower cars by better drivers than myself. There are simply too many variables to even guess the outcome, otherwise why do we race?

there should be a computer program for calculating if you will lose or not to other cars so that we don't get these kind of posts anymore....
"so if i have a 91 1.8 eclipse, should i be able to take a ferrari enzo? i mean i have an intake and lots of stickers so i should have a good chance...what does everyone else say?"
so many of these posts!

www.carpoint.com that should help, it will tell you the stock hp and torque, its got the curb weight (which is what your car is probably closest to when racing) listed along with pretty much every other spec you should need... gear ratios etc

i really want to know when to shift, and the tire presuures i should be running. also, what rpm to launch at. i have a straight pipe.magnaflow race series, so i ave more high end then low end. thanx

Mr. Talon - are the weights you read listed as GVWR? If so, that is the car loaded up with a full tank of fuel and all other fluids, passengers at each seating position and luggage.

ok about the waight it is like this:
90-94 N/A DSM weight about 2690 stock with all the jack back up tire and axesoary. So I too away all that crap and mine 93 N/A is about 2550 lb now. :D

i always ran 5 psi lower than ur max psi in your tire. also you launch i think u should b reving between 3-4 thousand rpms, inbetween those you should b good. if you take out ur spare, jack, subs and everything that you can, you should b 50 lbs lighter atleast but with you and your dad in the car it will be close. it'll probably just matter on the driver. hope that helps. if you can also find another spare, you can run 2 spares as your back tires to also save weight.

thanx for all the advise, unfortuantly, the race has been postoned to another day. i suer hope its soon. i'll post the results asap after we race, i would still apreciata any help and stratagies.
