Hey-

I have a 1999 Eclipse GS and I am trying to install 2 AEM Cam Gears (3 bolt).

Reading through all the N/A posts concerning AEM cam gears, I got a lot of feedback on proper settings and trouble shooting, but I am really looking for a general install. I read the directions and they just don't make all that much sense. I have installed a few things on my car like headers and intake, but nothing like cam gears. I really don't want to pay for install and would like to learn how to install cam gears. Is it possible for me to try and do this and is there anywhere that would offer a "how to do?" Or is this something I should try and take to a shop. Thanks for the advice.

-Tim

I just faced the same decision with my 99 GS. I went ahead and took it to a shop. The only thing is I got screwed. The bastards timed it wrong then retarded my intake cam 5 degrees to fix it. Well it runs fine now, but adjusting the gears is for tuning not fixing. Moral to this story is make sure they know what they are doing and don't just trust them. I trusted this shop for two years. Never again.

Anyway, about trying it yourself I decided against it because the timing has to be perfect. I did my header, intake, plugs, wires, and short shift kit, but I just thought the timing would be above me.

P.S. Might as well do the timing belt too, since it will basically cost you just the belt.

When you get the cam gears they will have instructions in them. They have very good pictures and instructions to work from.

Hey-

Thanks for the feedback. I had a local shop to take a look at it and said that I had to weld stuff for the cam gear install and heat the pulley kit up so I could install them. What the hell? Is this just trash or can I acutally do this?

-Tim

PS - If the answer is no, anybody want to buy an Unorthodox Pulley Kit and 2 AEM Cam Gears?

Your local shop is full of crap! Do it yourself. It's very straight forward and pretty easy. You should change the timing belt at the same time also. The timing belt is a pain due to the engine mount. Take your time and it'll get done.

hey did u ever get this install done?? i wanna know because im about to do that same install.. so let me know if you did it or not.. cause i would like to know how that install came along, and if it was easy.. thanks

I bet those cool Altezza's added 50 HP.:thumb: I know what the forums are for man, but you tend to aggravate people when you bring back a forty day old thread. If you think I'm bitchy continue the moronic posts.
