should i beat a 240sx?

ok about two weeks ago i raced this kid in his 1990 nissan 240sx. dont worry, tha road we were on was a straightaway hidden on a little makeshift drifting course near my house. anyway, i hardly ever race my eclipse so im real used to shifting gears at around 3 grand from daily driving. before this kid got his car hed always say how hed beat so many people with it and how only turbo eclipses could beat him for now. i dont know too much about them so i couldnt really defend and say an eclipse would win. back to tha race. we started off and i got a real good jump on him, i stayed wit him till about 3rd gear and he started to pull on me. now remember i shifted every gear at no more than 3500 rpm and somehow i still kept up with him and tha front of my eclipse was never behind his rear window tha whole race. i told him id race him again so it will be a more fair race since ill be shiftin at 6500 or so and double clutching this time. my question is, should i beat him when i race him again?

try triple clutching, and spell check.

If you kept up with him before, you should beat him if you drive better the next time

well ive only been driving stick since i got this car which was in january so i dont know exactly what all tha terminology means. im jus goin off of what i was told it was. but then again tha kid that told me what double clutching is was my friend with an auto rsx

Dude u should spank that mother the 90 240sx is SHOC if it not the SE model. AND for double clutching mostly used for the big trucks it to get better traction. Man u watch to much FNF. well if it the SHOC it clock like 18s stock and it the SE clock like 17.7 so u should win. U guy werent racing if u were shifting gears at 3500. If u shift at 6500 u better win or that is sad

i hardly ever watch fnf. i think ive seen it mayb four times ever. tha reason i was sayin double clutchin to begin with was bcuz a friend of mine said that was good to do in a race. ive only been driving stick for 5 months so i dont know all tha good and bad things to do when racing other than tha basics.

double clutch is good if u can afford to by a new clutch but it works good bc the rpms go up more in the next gear it all depends on how u drive ur car and what u feel comfortable about.... and in fnf none of them double clutch watch there feet that movie is full of mistakes and bullshit part one and 2 but full of good eye candy like that one ja lo lookin chick

Ok, never double clutch when shifting up gears, only downshifts. I don't care what anyone else says, i'm right. And your friend is an idiot(about shifting) don't take it personally, i just think people hear fancy sounding shifting terms and don't know about it.

About the 240...thats crazy that you were shifting so low in the RPMs, you should have lost. But if you were racing him for real and it was auto then you would probably win, manual 240's are pretty quick. Maybe he wasn't racing for real the first time, get a rematch and spank him again =)

i promise you all that im not bs ing you. i couldnt believe i kept up with him. i got a real good start on him which helped me a lot. hes a stock 5 spd too. he was racing for real too cuz he is always talkin crap bout eclipse's. i will go against him again soon and let you know how it went.

ALL 240sx's have the same engine for all trim models. SE are not faster that LE's or the base model. Saying a SE is faster than a base model is like saying a GS is faster than a RS.

89-90 KA24E 2.4 liter SOHC 140hp
91-98 KA24DE 2.4liter DOHC 155hp

Stock for stock you should lose to all 5spd 240s, since they have more torque and are lighter.

Double clutching is useless by the way.

Assuming that was a base model mustang, that's amazing you "smoked" a car with 60hp more than you. You sure she wasn't in reverse?

it was tha base and no she wasnt drivin in reverse.mad: it was some dumb chick who prolly got tha car cuz she thought it lookd cute. she doesnt even drive that good. she did beat me tha 1st time but evry time afta i beat her but she seemd to only go up to 70. im not lookin at that and sayin oh shit i beat a mustang cuz i dont care that much. i was just saying that i shifted where i was supposed to and smoked a car. who gives a shit what car it is and tha driver and all tha details. thanks for all tha "helpful" answers i got to this thread which were few and far between.

hey man don't worry bout the 240sx, i have a good buddy with one granted it's an auto but it's still slow. manual makes any car faster but still. has the guy had alot of experience on sticks???? cause that is 80% of the competition, and no offense but you need practice! go find an empty parking lot and try a few launch techniques, there are a few threads explaining the different ways and find the one that u feel most comfortable with. i would say "don't race" but ur gonna do that anyway and my opinion doesn't really matter in that case. and if u shift at 3k then u must not have a CAI, cause i shift at 4,500 alot cause i just love that sound of the whistle but that's just me =). our car's do well up to 6k so don't worry about shifting too high u'll just get really crappy gas mileage. but like i said PRACTICE!!! if u took him at the start and u on'y drove a stick for 5 months you could just rape him off the line with practice... have fun and BE CAREFUL! haha
