I seem to have a rather complicated problem with my number 4 cylinder. The spark plug doesn't seem to ignite the fuel in the cylinder. Here are the Details:
*When I make a gap between the wire and the plug, the plug fires giving me all 4 cylinders.
*I don't have a timing belt cover to time the engine to exactly the correct time, but it is very close.
*All four cylinders were working for about 30 miles after I put the new NKG spark plugs in, but then it stopped and hasn't worked since.
*My car has white smoke coming from the exhaust. The smoke smells of fuel, not of oil.
*When I pull the spark plug in number 4 it is saturated with gas.
*My car idles roughly and inconsistent.
*Acceleration is extremely slow and sometimes the car will surge under constant accelerator pressure.
*The entire fuel system seems to be running rich.
*I have a new cap and rotor.

Do you have any suggestions I could try? I think the injector could be worn allowing too much fuel into the cylinder and the plug can't ignite all that fuel. What do you think?

Check the compression in that cylinder and try a cylinder leakage test in that cylinder if you can. White smoke is a sign of burning coolant. If you see white smoke even when the motor is warmed up and running for a while there is a problem. Make sure that cylinder has compression though. I just don't like the sound of: *My car has white smoke coming from the exhaust. The smoke smells of fuel, not of oil.

Man, I have the same problem but with #2. i replaced all kinds of stuff and it still runs the same,(like crap)if you come across the solution please post it, I think Im going to have to take it to the dealer.

i had the same problem...cept it was runnin on only 2 of 4....the mechinc said he replaced the "coil" and it never did it again...but the thing is, it cost me 500 canadian...(without labor)...so i dunno..

I changed my plugs checked wires and replaced coil pack, I called a buddy at a dealer he said its probably an injecter or injecter O ring I really hope thats not it.Oh ya by a coil pack at a junk yard, I only paid 30 bucks and its only 4 bolts.
