Help My car is dying

My Talon keeps missing. At lights it drops the idle to 500 and I have to hold my foot on the gas and brake at the same time to keep it running. Is it possible that my Injen intake is causing a problem? Now today it is pouring out black smoke! I think that its a problem with the exhaust system but can anyone else confirm otherwise?

is it making any kind of out of places noises? Does it smell like gas if you let the idle drop down? Feel hesitant to take off at all? Have you checked the spark plugs?

Changed the spark plugs about a month ago. It doesn't feel like they went bad. The car has a horrible smell when it idles. And I can constantly hear the valves tapping. When it first happened the car was very hesitant at take off, but I don't know if that was because of idle surge . Idle surege at such low RPMs = car constantly cutting off, even when I change between drive park and reverse. With the heater or AC on things get even worse.

Mine does the same thing except it doesn't cut off, ever. I'm pretty interested to find out if anyone knows what this is.

I'm no mechanic but it sounds as if your engine might not be combusting efficiently. I've never had this problem personally but that's where I would start first.

isc motor. go to vfaq and find out how to check it. and black smoke could be your o2 sensor

black smoke usualy =burning oil and burning oil smells like shit prob doesn't help u that much but still. is your oil level going down repidly?

black smoke is not oil. Blue or whiteish smoke is oil. Black is your moter not burning gas well. come on know dude.

did it start happening right after you put the intake on? and was your air can cut up before?.......when i cut open my air can, it ran like shit after i drove it for a while because of all the hot air... then i made a heatsheild for it and ran awesome and pulls harder now... check my gallery for pics.before i put this on, my car would stall and surge like a muther f#@$er
