Is there an online procedure to follow to correctly degree in the cams for a NT 420A? I have seen a few posts regarding adjustable cam gears, or changing the cam belt, but no posts which outline the procedure for degreeing the cams. Where do you put the dial indicator, how find TDC?

Also what is the position vs performance relationship with NT cams, i.e. advanced = more power at lower rpms? retarded = more power at upper rpm? Is there a relationship btw the cams, i.e. if I adv the intake, should I also advance the exhaust, or adv just 1 cam, etc?

These questions may require complicated answers so please try to keep it simple for a newby who wants to check his cam timing and once done, maybe reset it for more lower rpm power.

i was just talking with a wiseman on here about adjusting the cam gears. he said the best place to start is -2 intake and exhaust cams then go from there. he said for the most part they love it around -2. i was worried about how far i could actually go without hurting the valves. he had a 10.9 comp motor and went -10 and +10 degrees just to see if he would hit the valves and he had no issues. which made me feel better about adjusting it on my own LOL. my power band hits around 4k so my low end suffers but my top end screams. i have crower 2's with adjustable cams which i havnt messed with but yeah i wanted more power down low but not lose any up top.

what cam gears do you have? heres a qoute i found in one of my pm's

"You will gain a little on the cam gear adjustment. I gained on the dyno with just adjustment. What you buddy is refering to, is to adjust your gears to move your power curve. Unfortunately, with the stock ECU, you are again fighting the timing pull up top. The best place to start is -2 and -2. For some reason that seems to work best with our cars."

Without getting too in-depth its kinda tough to explain all that you want to know about cam degreeing and the relationship of your particular cams with your particular needs. AND each specific set-up reacts differently than the other.

I did a little google for as simple an explanation (with enough info for you to work with) as possible. I'm thinking I like this one (yeah, I'm quoting a Honda site :p); Cam gear tuning basics - Team Integra Forums - Team Integra

I guess the one thing you may want to keep in mind, is if you are trying to tune down (or up) to a specific rpm range, your going to want o move your LSA. BUT keep in mind that if you try to narrow it down to a specific range, that will affect the rest of your curve.

As for finding TDC on our cars, here's a little info; 2GNT.com - PROPER_TIMING_MARK_ALIGNMENT If you are running fine then the only thing you would have to do would be to line up your cam gear marks. If you are concerned about the crank not being timed properly, here's a quickie check (see post #6); http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/452065-car-will-not-start-completely-lost.html
