hey i'm been in your area alot, i grew up not far from you. on top of that i used to have my P.A. state inspection certification. the general rules for pa are; your exhaust exit must clear the passenger compartment, no holes no leaks, and you must have a muffler of some sort installed,no straight pipes...thats about it. according to the book in P.A. the max decible level is 125, but is left up to the opinion of the po-po who pulls you over.:rolleyes:
 
it all depends on your wallet....greddy is awsome, pace setters is shitty...thats pretty much the two ends of the scale. where i'm stationed at, nm, there is even less rules about sound/ emisions. i have a custom exhaust, it is a 2.5in pipe going into a flowmaster 3in. in, dual 2.5in. out. it is loud and mean. my guestimate is 120ish for decibles.
 
ummm...120 decibles....that is f-ing loud. I think probably the loudest would be around 110 tops. The tanabe super racing medalion has a decible rating at 103. Every 3 decibles is doubleing the sound loudness, so i think 120 is far fetched. But if you want something really loud, then get an exhaust with out any resonators on it and with a straight pipe for the cat and headers would also make it louder. I suggest going with either Tanabe Super Racing Medalion exhaust or get a custom without resonators. Either one of those is going to be pretty loud. The TRM sounds very nice in my opinion, but i've only heard it on my friends 2000 civic si. Hope this helps some. - Kevin
 
yeah it is f@cking loud, if it doesn't hit 120ish it gets freakin close. i don't know how loud it is, i don't have equiment to give a acurate reading, a.k.a.guestimation! i work around German Air Force members who have there cars here directly from Germany. the rules that they have over there are insane, like everything on your car has to be appoved and you have to carry documentation around proving it. their exhast is not allowed to be louder than 95 decibles, my car is WAY f@ckin louder then theirs. so if i'm wrong i apoligize, just accept my car is LOUD....oh yeah my cat is gutted, and i have no resignator, that could explain why it is so loud.:thumb: :D
 
I'm in cali, so we have big time restrictions here and it sucks!!!! I'm just loud enough to wake up a few neighborhoods going to school at 7 in the morning. - Kevin
 
Could somebody tell me where to get decible ratings? I'm looking for a quieter exhaust.
 
Hey i have a 2 1/2 Pacesetter cat back system with no Res. and it's loud and adding my header and gutting my cat made it really loud...But the wierd thing about it is it has a muffler on it with a tip that makes it sound like my two stroke "Banchee" wich in my book i can't stand as you can see in the pics...
But maybe you can help me out with this....I am looking this weekend to hack my pacesetter muffler looking POS off and welding on a new muffler..Note i already have a 2 1/2 inch pipe, but what muffler out there would sound really loud and deep throut (If you will)?
Or would i be better off buying a muffler and throwing another tip on it?

if you want to be like everyone, you cant go wrong with the N1... i am lookin for one right now.. all i have heard on that muffler have been awesome things... e-bay has knock-offs for extememly cheap... but you will prolly be looking at about 150 for the muffler... prolly a lil higher... i dont have any experience, but everyone i have tlaked to that has it loves it.
 
If you dont care for the law and shit, do what I did, I made my self a custom 2.5" test pipe ( no catylic converter) also I torched off my muffler, and made a 2.5" straight pipe with just a tip. And it is loud as hell! I make V8's sound wimpy. Also it back fires alot due to no back pressure, but im used to it.
 
WHAT ABOUT THE APEXI HYBRID TURBO N1 MUFFLER?


AND WHAT IS THAT LITTLE OVAL TUBE INSIDE THE MUFFLER?


CAUSE I WANT SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE LOUD AS HELL, NOW WOULD A STAINLESS BE BETTER AND LOUDER THAN A TITANIUM MUFFLER?


CAUSE I KNOW THAT THE TITANIUM IS LIGHTER BUT IS IT LOUDER?IF SO WHICH ONE WOULD BE BEST FOR MY CAR?

Open head is pretty loud. Probably safer with open exhaust manifold or header - thats effing loud too.
 
Personally, I have an OBX Cat back exhaust with a 5" tip. From what I hear, and from reving against other people, it's one of the loudest I've come across. I also have headers, so there's none of that fart can honda sounding exhaust. It's really deep, and super loud. I love it :)
 
If your going for loud. Apexi N1 is definatley the way to go. My friend juss installed a Full Apexi N1 Catback and it sound ridiculus. You can hear him for about 9 or 10 city blocks. It's crazy. I'm acually gutting my cat tommorrow. Make it alittle more louder. Nieghbors love that noise! Especially at 3 am in the morning. :dsm: :talon: :laugh:
 
:thumbdown Loudest isnt always the best man, im rollin with my greddy evo 2 and when im idol u cant even hear it, but when i step on it it is the deepest soundin exhuast ive ever heard :thumb:
 
Why on earth do you want something thats going to be insane loud? Do you want to be like every anoying honda out there, or are you just going deff..?

My exhaust is going to be loud... 2 3/4 turbo back to a 3" Tanabe Racing Medalian.... do I want it loud... no, is it going to give me the best power...absolutly.... but I'm a turbo.

With a NT you need the backpressure for power. If you completly remove your exhaust, your loosing power... now whats the point in that? Get a header, remove your cat, put a spiraflow where the resonator is, and get a GOOD high flow muffler. This will be your best bet. If you just want to be anoying... straight pipe it all the way out.
 
one of my firends (who owns a *cough honda *cough) has a ractive cat-back with the cat hollowed out and i think that it is insanely loud. i think that it just gets you more attention form the po-po.
 
.....and this thread is over a year and 1/2 old....... i'm gonna go smoke a joint now.
