Well if the motor is in good condition then yes 5lbs would be fine but 185k miles is quite a bit. I would atleast do all your maintenance first, do not skip anything because that 400 dollars for the kit could turn into thousands of dollars in repairs

I wouldn't suggest a "turbo kit" as most of them are usually ebay P.O.S. that'll kill your engine.

And no, no one here will tell you to swipe your 420a engine for a 4G63T as it'd be a huge waste of time, effort and money.

Lastly I don't think you should go with it, unless he really has all the supporting mod's to go along and a reliable turbo (something he pieced together himself using quality parts etc). If you want to buy it because it's cheap (400$), don't do it because the repair cost may get much higher than that.

But it's your car anyways, I just suggest you try and follow the upgrade path and learn a bit more about your car before doing a choice you may regret.

Just make sure your car is up on its proper maintenance and preventive maintenance and it should be okay. With that amount of miles I'd probably look into checking the compression before adding the extra stress on a motor. No since in adding extra stress on a worn out motor to destroy it faster.

yeah i was goin to check all of that stuff cause i got a compression tester with me and to fix the minor oil leak with the cam seals which is not hard and an easy fix but yeah thats why i was goin to do low boost to keep the strain off the engin but still get a noticable hp gain but keep it in the safe range

I would recommend a build first before turbocharging ## 420a, they are not:nono: the best at holding boost unless itz a fresh motor or young on miles. I have a 420a turbo and i blew mine only pushing 7lbs:banghead: and that was just from daily driving:ohdamn: i didnt beat on it at all. So i built it and i felt a power increase without the turbo. So then i turbo'd it and i'm highly satisfied. My advice is take it slow. And like everyone above said a hundred dollar part can turn into a thousand dollar repair......:beatentodeath:

^^^ that sucks. I've had my 420a turboed for about 5-6 years on stock internals at 7lbs and she is still pulling good. I've pushed it hard once and a while and taken it to the track a couple of times. I'm only starting to rebuild the motor now just cause i want more power out of the car.
But like everyone says go with quality parts. Remember you get what you pay for.

well from what i hear like the on the motor specs just the stock internals can handle up to 300hp thats why i was sayin i was goin to push low boost like 4-5lbs only and then go get it tuned but sp far the car has been grat i havent had any problems and lets say with that low boost would it still be a good idea to get the bigger fuel pump 255 walbro

fuel pump would still be absolutely necessary

I had a stock short block with 150k thrown in the green car(straight out of Cash and Carry), drove it around for a year on 10psi with my current setup.didn't have any problems. I had the intentions of it blowing up.:sneaky:

OP: +1 on the Comp Test, also on +1 on the Proper Maintenance. If you haven't already, I highly recommend taking a look at a Turbo write-up like......this one so that you can familiarize yourself with the proper parts needed to boost and other upgrade options.

Also, for clarification, and this is per Mark Bullet and my own findings from talks with AMM and Cox: 420a stock fuel system usually will not allow any more than 8lbs of boost, more can be squeezed out of it, but that's definitely not recommended. It's the injectors fault in that scenario. The blocks limit itself, with proper tuning has not been reached yet. So far its 737HP(DSM-ZERO) it is our Rods that are the weak link. Mark thinks it involves the Rod Bolts more so than the Rods themselves. With proper ECU and Fuel upgrades, 13lbs is achievable on a stock block. Possibly more with meth and/or E85. Our Heads flow better than the SRT 2.4 head and also flows better than most 2.0 DOHC heads of it's era.

If anyone wants to talk shop about this PM me.

yeah see im probaly goin to just stick with 5lbs of boost and i got to see the turbo today its and .60 t3 turbo and it brand new never been used but after awhile after i build some money up i will up grade the internals for more boost but thanks for all of yall help if i have anymore questions i will definalty hit yall up
