I have a 96 Talon with the 420A and have performed a few bolt on modifications like an air intake and the eclipse front end and lights. I have a problem with having an oil pressure idiot light and no gauge. My cluster gauges are Tach, Speedo, Fuel, and Water Temp. I dont want to install an aftermarket gauge and have to put in a pillar pod or custom bezel. I noticed in some OEM clusters that instead of the 2 smaller single gauges, there are 2 smaller dual gauges that add Volts and Oil Pressure. I have searched through the forums on this site (and others) :banghead:and cant find anything where someone might have performed this bolt on. Everything I can find says that this should work as long as I change out the oil pressure switch to an oil pressure sensor. Anyone out there done this and if so, what additional parts/mods were required besides the cluster to make it work? I want to preserve the OEM look.

What I suggested "preserves" the oem look seeing how many cars come with this type of setup. Not to mention how much simplier it would be. But to get functional OEM guages you have to find a cluster that has oil pressure guage and change your switch to a sensor. So I believe with that said, You now just have to find a cluster and start wiring. And you probably won't find anyone that has done "this bolt on". Because for the work it takes to do that you could easily have just put in two more precise guages.

well done my friend..

The oem cluster with oil psi is off of a turbo dsm

I already obtained a cluster on the cheap from a guy parting out a wreck. I just need to know what is involved with making the extra gauges work in my car. I dont want to just plug it in and see what works or what smokes. From what I can tell most of the wiring to the 3 connectors in the back of the clusters is the same. What Im not sure about is what it takes to get the oil gauge working. The base cluster just uses an oil pressure switch that triggers the oil low lamp at about 8psi. Is there an additional sensor for the oil pressure gauge and is there an unused wire and connector hanging unused on the harness somewhere, or would I have to run another wire? Or does it make use of a combo switch/sensor to replace the switch? Lots of questions, no answers.

There are N/A cars out there that had the oil pressure gauge on the left side of the IP in the same circle as the temp gauge.

You need to see if you have the Yel/Red wire going to the back of your I/P. Might be easier to see if it is coming off of the oil pressure switch on the back of the engine.
