NT-specific Car Won't Rev Past 4k

I have a 98 eclipse when i bought it it wasnt running come to find out the fuel pump was bad so I replaced the pump and the gas since the car has been sitting for three years. Now it will start up and run but its like the rev limit is set to 4000 rpms. It doesnt have an upgraded computer I dont think. The only performance parts on it are aem cold air intake and apexi cat back exhaust. I saw alot of posts about this for a turbo car but none for a non turbo. So any help would be great thanks

Won't go over 4k while driving or sitting in the driveway and hammering the gas pedal.

NT-specific more info

It is a five speed and its when the car is driving. I havent tried it just sitting didnt want to run the high rpm just sitting not knowing what is wrong. I have not changed the fuel filter yet but it doesnt really feel like lack of fuel feels like the rev limiter has been set to 4000 rpms but Im 90% sure its stock

Scan your PCM for codes, if nothing shows up.... Look into your map sensor on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

+1 to check the senors on the intake manifold. Same thing happened to me and it was because they had gone out. Also unplug the battery for at least 30 minutes.

NT-specific

ok ill try this is there any way to just check the sensor

Thank you so much it was a disconnected wire on the map sensor plug. I fixed it in two seconds. Car runs great now. When I bought it the guy said the engine was blown and I got a 98 eclipse with 108k for only 350. And come to find out there was nothing wrong with it what an idiot!

i know what the problem is. one time i was under the hood the of the eclipse working on some things then went for a drive car would not rev over 4k just like what you are talking about. it took me about 5 minutes to find the problem only because i know every nut bolt and wire under the hood of my 420a. so by now your like what the hell is it!!! ok ok i will tell you it was the TPS. when i was wrenching on my car i cut one of the wires on accident so the car would only rev to 4k. so 1 of 2 things you have a cut wire or bad throttle position sensor.
