Ok so my car won't start and Im pretty sure its the ignition switch. when i wiggle the key around it dims the lights, and they get brighter( ones on the dash) but it wont turn over. I turn the key and get a few clicks then nothing. Battery is brand new... so im wondering where the ignition switch is?

thanks guys!

There's a couple things that you'll want to check first before you start tearing apart the column and spending money on unecessary things.

You know the battery is new, and you're getting a click when you turn the key right? Sounds like your switch is working fine but there's something wrong between the battery and the flywheel. Usually clicking means that there's power getting to the starter from the switch and kicking the solenoid, but not enough juice to spin the starter.

The first thing I would check is the battery cables. If they're original factory then they're probably corroded inside or just plain worn out. If you've got access to a multimeter then I would check the voltage at the battery and then again at the starter. It shouldn't be more than a .5 volt difference. You can also cut open the jacketing a few inches to check the color of the cables. Anything other than bright copper is bad. If the cables prove bad, replace them, it'll be your cheapest potential fix and the most likely. I've had to rewire the battery and starter in ALL my DSM's, and when I worked at a local parts store cables were behind ~75% of the starting issues that we would see.

If the cables are fine try tapping on the starter with a hammer, it might be jammed up internally. If tapping the starer gets it to work then you'll need to replace it soon. You can also remove the starter from the car and take it to your local parts store and have it bench tested to see if it's still good or not.

thank you so much. haha the postive terminal was all messed up and GREEN! so im going to replace that and give it ago.

No problem, that's what we're here for. Check the cable too since the treminal is all nasty. Just use a razor blade on the jacketing, start at the bare wire and cut a few inches back. Nothing so far that you can't tape it back up. If the corrosion continues into the wire you'll need to replace it
