i was wondering what the specific ft lbs of torque was for the head on a 97 eclipse rs 420a when swapping a new head gasket?

Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in figure. Using the 4 step torque turn method, tighten according to the following values.

Tighten center fasteners 1 thru 6 to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) . Then outer fasteners 7 thru 10 to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) .
Tighten center fasteners 1 thru 6 to 67 Nm (48 ft. lbs.) . Then outer fasteners 7 thru 10 to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) .

I'm skeptical about those measurements.

Here are the correct measurements for a 420a engine. Enjoy.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown
in the figure.
Using the 4 step torque turn method, tighten according
to the following values:
Step 1
Tighten center fasteners 1 thru 6 to 33 Nm (24
ftlbs.), then outer fasteners 7 thru 10 to 26 Nm
(20 fklbs.) .I
Step 2
Tighten center fasteners f thru 6, to 67. Nm (46
ftlbs.), then outer fasteners' 7 'tbru 'IO to 28 Nm
(20 ftlbs.).
, '..
..
Step 3
Tighten center fasteners 1 thru 6 to 67:km (46
ft.lbs.), then outer fasteners 7 thru '10 to %I 'Nm
(20 ftlbs.). '.
Step 4
Turn all fasteners 1 thru 10 l/4 turn (90 degrees).
Do not use a torque wrench for this step.

I believe I just went to 85ftlbs on all 30, 60, 85. Based on recommendations from 2gnt members (this is also with arp head studs though)

As Barza said, there is no specific torque. Here are the numbers that I follow on my builds (unless of course, I use ARP's). This includes my 12.5 comp NA engine that I used stock head bolts on.

This is the most current update from AERA;

(oiled with lightweight oil and torqued in sequence)

Center's 25ft/lbs, corners (short bolts)20ft/lbs

Then Center's 50ft/lbs and corners 35ft/lbs

Then Center's again to 50 and corners to 35 again

Then tighten all bolts an additional 90 degrees

Take it to the bank :thumb:
