1G Non Turbo 1.8L Engine Swap

Hey i have a 94 Talon 1.8L SOHC 5 speed. I was curious to how much it would cost to swap the engine with a 2.0L 16V DOHC. Everything i read says to just buy a new one with turbo. Well my insurance would put a foot in my ass, so thats not really an option. I have about $5,000 to lay down on it. Any idea on cost and parts needed? All input would be great. Thank.. and all work is being done for free

you basically need everything under the hood of a 2liter car,your best bet would be to find a doner car,something thats crashed or something but still runs good.

well i found one car i could get its only $1,000. Only thing is its a 91 eclipse turbo and it has 102,000 miles on it. Would the 91 engine fit into my car?

i think you can, 90-94 engine bays are the same except for the lights.. correct me if i'm wrong, and going turbo along with 2.0 swap is worth it... i would do it if i can find a turbo 102k mile car fo 1k :-/

The insurance isn't THAT bad on a turbo 1st gen. I pay $700 a year for my all wheel drive turbo '91 talon.

Yea but lets just say i have alot of speeding tickets.. Mine would go up. O yea besides just the engine what else would i need out of the 2.0 for my car. I mean could i just do an engine swap without changing anything else? As you can see engines are not my strong point. I appriciate all the replys. Thanks

pretty sure the tranny is different, though I don't have much experience with the 1.8s
throttle cable?
clutch and shifter cables? Shifter linkage?
fuel pump?
MAS, aircan, intake pipe
intercooler, IC pipes, BOV
downpipe, cat, cat-back

So would it be easier to just swap basically everything under the hood with the 2.0 then go about replacing parts with aftermarket stuff?

Yep. It is slightly easier with the 2.0 Non-turbo to swap in a turbo engine. It gets much more complicated when starting with the 1.8.

well i just bought a good 2.0 DOHC turbo, with 2 turbos, intercooler and piping for 200.00, and im about to swap my 1.8 to the 2.0...I know i have a project ahead of me

well i went ahead and got that 91 talon with the 2.0DOHC non turbo. I wont be doing anything to it till march when i drive to NJ cause my dads doin all the engine work for me. But with that.. what after market parts should i lean towards? Nothing to crazy im workin with a budget but if it helps i just wanna be pushin about 250 + hp..The more you post the more i learn

o yea me and 91eclipseGS sound like were in the same boat here. Msg me man with any advice you have.And i still need to know if the engine bay of the 91 and 94 are the same so i can do this?
