Eagle Rods
CI reman Crank
ACL bearings
ss Valves
PT style lifters .... ect...

I'll keep every one posted.. it should be done by end of september...:dsm:

i found a shop that will do my motor for about 1000... is this a good deal?? the shop has a good reputation.. the shops name is trevtec.. they are known for building a 420a that does 10s..

also i have never got an engine rebuilt.. is there anything that i should look for???

There is an excellent write-up on how to rebuild a motor that is very popular for do-it-yourselfers. It is what I used when rebuilding mine last year and saved a ton of money...($1000?). If you have the time which 8 months plus a few more wouldnt hurt, try doing it yourself. It seems you have already pulled it which is half of the work already. You also said money is tight so thats another reason to try it yourself.

I was a little nervous to jump into it also but with the help of these forums and 2gnt.com and especially CORBINS rebuild write-up, of which I followed almost exactly, I was able to rebuild my engine and it seems to be working just fine and no more smoke :) 15,000 miles or so later.

The biggest thing about doing it yourself is everything you will learn. I have learned so much from doing it and actually plan on doing it again shortly to go with my turbo. But like I said, if you have the time and most likely another vehicle by now, try it yourself and you will be amazed when you are done. You have people on here to help you out and probably some other 2gnters to lend a hand if you need it.

If you are completely uncomfortable with doing it yourself, then let a shop do it but trust me, there is no other feeling like it, starting up an engine that you just completely rebuilt yourself for the first time and hearing it run after many, many hours of hard work.

Good luck with whatever you decide though and hope it all works out :thumb:

thanks tegster1.. i'll look into it.. but i will probably have the shop do it because i have alot on my plate right now.. and i have the cash for the build but no money for a turbo..

and i miss driving my dsm so much.. its all that i think about and all that i work for.. i am that crazy about my car... + over here in vegas, its like 110 during the day and my dsm is sitting outside, i dont want to leave it sitting for much longer..

hahaha the front mount interfooler was a temp and its off for good...

i was planning on waiting for a while.. for reliability... i dont have the cash yet for a turbo kit... but when i do (probably 3 months) i will probably go with the treadstone kit... i found one for about 1800...

i was also thinking about going the cheap route and getting a nitrous kit (50-75 shot/wet)

Trevtec is awddynamite's shop. If you decide to go that route. He does know a bit about building a strong 420a.

+1 I currently have my talon with Trevor, because even after my full head gasket change I couldn't pinpoint the problem with the white smoke out of my exhaust... I personally trust and recommend him. He is definitely good people.

PM me if your interested... I'd post his website here, but I'm not sure if that is legal.

With built internals you could run a 100+ shot no problem.

75 is about the max you want to go on stock internals

If you are serious about high compression and turbo you will need MSnS period. You won't be able to get by without timing and fuel control and there is no other setup for the 420 that is as practical or capable as MSnS. I would wait though there are "rumors" that they are making a plug and play version that bolts up just liek a stock ecu.

If you decide to go nitrous build you have just about everything you need to make a real nice quick street car already minus the nitrous of course. I would reccomend getting something like MSD DIS-2 so you can retard timing though but other than that your on the right track. With forged internals and retarded timing I have seen a guy spray "suposedly" a 250 shot but it hasn't been confirmed but I don't see any reason why a 150 shot wouldn't be fine just as long as you have arp head studs a good HG and your head is in good condition.

just a quick update.. i know its been a while. i was ready to take my motor to the shop to get rebuilt but i lost my job in september..

now im ready, i have been working at a new job.. saving some money and waiting for my tax refund.. i am sending the motor to the shop at the end of this month..

i will keep everyone updated and i will upload a video when im finished, i have also decided to stay the na route..

my buddy gave me his dry 75 shot so i will also be using that.. pics and videos soon!!!!

I would seriously re-consider any remanufactured crank. Your best bet is to find an undamaged stock crank in a junkyard or someplace online. Then have your machine shop polish the crank.

The journals on remanufactured cranks are often cut well below the recommended service specification then welded to add material. The result is a relatively weak crank.

the motor is going to the shop on tuesday.. the guy said he is going to be cutting the piston rings so that i can run nitrous.. :hellyeah:

i also got my prothane mount inserts in the mail. i was just wondering how do you remove the old inserts from the mounts??

A torch or a press. You have to remove the metal ring that is inside also not just the rubber

I didnt know that. i'll talk to my rebuilder and see what he says...

heres a picture of the reman. crank that i got from CI motorsports..

If you didnt live so far away Id give you a hand building that 420A:D... Id just leave it all motor if I was you cause your gonna spend more money later on when you wanna turbo it.... I could of sold you my fully built 420A I had, but I let it go for 600 bucks cause it just sat too long in my basement.... Good luck with the build though:thumb:

shredwin thanks.. yea most hardcore DSMers live on the east coast but i got my friend who has a first gen awd helpin me out along the way... he actually has a fresh built motor so he has been through this before..

just sent the motor to the shop yesterday, its going to be 1100 for everything.. they said it will be done in about a week!!!:thumb:

Yeah im glad to hear it will be done soon:thumb:..... You gotta get some videos and pics when its fully done, I like to see peoples finished projects.. Did you find something to solve that tranny blow up problem?

no not yet.. i have a friend here in town that used to own a DSM shop called Vegasbound, i talked to him about welding up the tranny and i think he might have a guy to do that..

I also havent decided on which LSD to go with.. i was going to go with the phantom grip but i have been hearing bad things about it.. so im still not sure..

also i talked to my rebuilder and he said that since my pistons are going to be 10.5, he doesnt recommend using nitrous on pump gas.. but knowing me i will do a few pulls on the bottle anyway, just for some good video..

a friend of mine owns a shop and he build a neon, and they are 420a's.. He said he bought and LSD for his tranny so it wouldnt blow up, I think he paid like 1,200 bucks for the LSD and the brand is Quife or something like that

wow 1200 damn... yeah i heard about that brand.. Ill look into that..

but right now the only thing holding me back is not having a full aluminum radiator.. everyones been telling me that since i have .40 over pistons that my motor will over heat easier.. so ive been looking for a good radiator for less then 300 bucks..
