i have a 99 gs that seams to be stuck in 1st. could be second according to similar threads. it cant be in limp mode because ive had the battery removed many times since the accident. i spun out and hit a pole w/ the driver tire. now that the suspension is fixed i took it out on the road and it doesnt shift. it could be the speed sensor. but i cant find them. i see 2 plugs from the driver side, but it doesnt seam to be it.

any help is appreciated. thanks

Don't quote me but it could be your shifter solenoid. Sounds about it. If that takes a good jarring, it could toast it. I'm a M/T guy myself so I don't have to worry about it.

Also, are you throwing a CEL? If so, take it to Auto Zoo and have them check it to see which codes it's throwing. Something like that, I assume, would definately throw a CEL.

You have an input and output speed sensor. I would change both of those first.

i am having the same problem but im pretty sure its stuck in 2nd gear
but mine goes foreward in all gears including reverse
park is just park and i did unhook the battery to rid me of the cel and see of it solves the problem
but it did nothing
i was told it may be the tcu but im hopeing it isnt

at first my usb obdii diagnostics thing didnt recognize my car but now it says tranny module. i drove to autozone and they got "1st gear ratio bad" and "tranny module problem". hopefully its just the sensors and teh module didnt get damaged in the wreck

i only found the imput sensor. where the output one? ive even looked in the overhaul manual i have for420a auto tranny

thanks

i have another tranny, would the shift solonoid be swappable or shoudl i just buy another one?

where is the solonoid located ?
i really want to see if thats the problem asap
because i dont want to pay a shop 500 dollars to install a new tcu

drop the pan on the tranny and it'll be the first thing you'll see. pretty much the only thing you'll see. although only way youll know if its bad or not is if theres cracks or broken pieces

heres an example
