i removed the air box in my car a while ago and got a K&N. The question that i have is whether or not the plastic container that leads into the stock air box has any purpose in our cars? as far as i see it, i'd rather remove it and let more air in from under the car through the opening that i'll get if i get rid of it. i havent touched it so far but by the looks it appears to be an absolutel waste of space...
thanx for any advice

just read somewhere that it is called the resonator box. anyone have any ideas?

I think the resonater is just for sound reduction. NVH, power-robbing-mass-pleaser...
It should be fine without it, it might actually increase throttle response a little, but it will probably sound kinda cool too, i'll have to try that...:)

Yes, it is worthless wasted space. It's where the intercooler is mounted on Turbo models, so Mitsu just closed the thing up for NT models. I was sceptical at first but after I accidentally droped my flashlight into the thing and didn't get it out for two days (but was still driving the car:laugh: ) and after listening to it with a stethiscope and examining it from every angle I concluded it was just empty sealed space. I opened it right up and never had any problems.

LOL, thats hillarious. i was just gonna rip it out without using a stetoscope first... :D
did u take it out completely or just made some holes in it??

First I drilled holes in it. Then I just cut the face of it off so it was like an air scoop under the side of my car. Cutting out the face was a pain in the a*s! I tried using a dremel but after breaking about 6 blades I used a swiss army knife pocket saw:cry: It was not fun, but worth it.

i guess ill try to cut the bottom off and make it into a scoop. If that doesnt work ill just throw it the hell out. Sounds like an interesting weekent project!:D
