Yea, what he said. ^^^ It looks good, but looks doesn't mean anything when you a tooth off. Follow vfaq and it will walk you through it. Best time to do it, when its on the engine stand. SOOOO much easier.

Well freeze up on that then. That form is for a 4g63 only. Says so right at the top. You think it might be the same but I'm not sure. I don't want you blaming me if the timing is off on the car cause I gave you the wrong directions. I don't have the 420A version. I might see if I can find it though.

Looks like it is SLIGHTLY (like 1/4 tooth) advanced (i believed in this sense advance = before, retard = later) but i don't think it is much to worry about. It maybe 1 or 2* if that. Try rotating the crank 2 full revolutions to ensure timing. Sometime the belt will relax once you rotate it, to compensate for the 1/2 tooth before TDC you are suppose to put in it at initial timing (for tension purposes). Looks good, let us know how well it runs when you get it put back in. And I don't know if you know this already (so I'll say it just in case) but don't neglect the break-in period or oil prime :D.

Be careful I installed my cam gears from AEM and they make them so they can go on both cams and they have two spots for the dowel pins. When the car is timed up the holes in the cames should both be facing up and the crank should indicate tdc.

Thanks guys for the help. Im also thinking the crank mark is slightly off. But the reason for that is probly because for some reason on the stock cam gears the timing marks are on the inside of the teeth and the aftermarket ones are on the outter side of the teeth. I can take pics to show you what im talking about.

Slippi84- These aftermarket cam gears also have two spot were the dowl pins can go. Is what i did was put the stock ones were they need to be lined up and then quickly put the new ones on.

I also noticed that intake dowl pin was facing up and exhaust one was facing down is this how there suppose to be??

I don't knwo I didn't get a chance to fix mine yet as I did the same thing but Bullet was the one that told me about the dowel pins and the holes in the cams. I think he got dislexic on me LOL but I believe that is correct as with the intake down and exhaust up it was wrong.

K cus i lined the stock one up were they need to go first then put the aftermarket ones on so i wound imagine there right but the only thing im woundering about is the little timing marks how there different from stock to aftermarket ones! I can take a pic?

No need I know what you mean. In terms of peeks and valleys the stock cam was marked on the valley while the aftermarket cam sproket is marked on teh peek I got ya ;) That is fine that won't change anything your cool.

Yeah from further reading mark is right it's intake down exhaust up. I think I just put my cam gears both on like they were intake cams or something because my wholes on my cams aren't facing up:confused:

My cams are still in the same place. After reading all that info i think i have my timing right! One dowl pin up and the other faceing down, Both holes on the cames are facing straight up!! This is correct right??

By Jove I think Ee's got it!

As long as it is your intake cam that is down and your exhaust cam that has the dowel up :thumb:
