Hey, I am currently in process of rebuilding my car, I haven't yet decided on what parts to get. I have 2 options:

1. Get a full Topline Rebuild Kit ($600)
2. or get forged internals turbo-ready.

I'd like the turbo ready internals but I don't know if I'm going to have money on the long run to buy or make a turbo kit, however I really want to turbo it later. What do you guys think about topline rebuild kit (pistons, gaskets, etc) I know its not turbo-ready but if I just wanted a basic rebuild is it worth it?

I also have a question I saw a 2.2 stroker crank at raceng website, if I bought the crank what other parts would I need to run a stroker? (sorry for my limited knowledge about cars just starting to learn alittle)

Thanks for your help.

i would go with the turbo internals because you can still ride aroud without the turbo on your car with them. when you get the money to boost you will be happy cause you already have the potenial to go over 8 psi.

If you go with a basic rebuild, I would first determine the condition of your existing pistons. Mahle provided the factory pistons for the 420a, and they are decent pieces. If they are in acceptable shape, re-use them.

Another option would be to go with forged internals, but with the factory CR. This way you will not lose any NA power, and the bottom end would be much stronger than was from the factory, for when you decide to add a turbo.

Connecting rods. If you want to run long rods with your stroker, you would need different pistons as well.

Locke, the connecting rods from the 2.2L stroker kit from Howell are the same thing as their 'long rods' from the long rod kit. Howell just wanted another use for the custom made rods they needed for their stroker kits, so they began marketing them as "long rods." If you get their 2.2L stroker crank, you'll need their special rods and pistons too.

Can't say I've ever payed enough attention to them to notice. Good to know, Paul. :thumb:

Thank you for the replies guys. I guess it would be too much money and time if I buy the stroker crank, then get all the other parts.

My pistons are in pretty bad condition, atleast thats what my dad's friend said (he's rebuilding the engine) so I need to get new ones along with new rings. I haven't really found a good kit yet, but I am leaning toward CI motorsports "build your own" engine kit, they have some decents parts. I am not sure about shipping, I heard they took weeks to ship, I don't know how it will turn out though.

Along the pistons, I am getting felpro gasket kit, is that decent or..? Cometic is kind of expensive for me.

If you go stocker (which if I was you I wouldn't). I highly recomend partsdinosaur.com.

Even if you don't go stocker, you can get the bearings, gaskets and other parts from them. Great prices and great shipping and Bruce has excellent customer service. I have used him for pretty much every rebuild that I have done.

And, no, I get nothing for posting this :p
