Well I know everyone says we've seen this post a million times and search the forums to find the same thing. Well I did search the forums and alot of my questions haven't been answered, all I've heard alot is get the star or hahn kit. I'm looking to do something a bit different. I have friends that are great with turbo, which I'm new at, but no one knows about the 420a. I guess what I'm wondering if someone could give me a good direction to head with my project. I understand in order to run higher than 8 psi I need to build the engine, well wheres the best place to start, what should I be looking for first. Is there any other turbo that I can use other than the t3/t4 with a 420a. From what I've seen from these same posts it suggests getting a gs-t or gsx or getting one of the hahn or star kits or searching the forums that those forums just tell me to check more forums. I guess I need a DSM mentor or something.

Yes, pretty much most will tell you to get a gst or gsx. Your weak point is the engine, Ive seen some 420a' put down some nice power but it takes more money to get a 420a there. Start by building the engine go with a t3. Try running megasquirt it has spark aswell. Then you need to hunt around for parts and procedures for installing a fuel pump, injectors & emu. The thing that will hurt you the most is the punny exhaust system. Your better off buying a setup on ebay or somewhere else.

Nice link below but this guy spent alot of money check out the parts list.

yeah pretty much I would like to piece a kit together. As far as goals, just getting it running with high output. The only thing making me wait to start this project is getting into this new duplex that surprisingly has a 2 car garage(space for my car and my roomates project). I mean within a month I'm going to non-op my 2g to start building the engine up. This is my first time doing this so all of this is a learning experience.

You might want to find a spare block and drop in some eagle rods and some JE or Wiseco pistons.
Here is a general list on what you should be looking for:

Exhaust manifold
Some sort of management system (Portfueler is technically managment as it is a standalone for fuel, or Megasquirt)
A Fuel Cut Defender (or missing link but you will end up getting a FCD anyways)
Larger injectors
An exhaust manifold
An intercooler (sidemount for low boost or a frontmount that will allow you to run more boost Later...and it looks cool)
Intercooler piping
Silicone couplers with T-bolt clamps (you can use hose clamps but you will eventually get t-bolt clamps)
A blow off valve
A blow off valve flange to attach it to your intercooler piping
A turbo (oil cooled only)
An external wastegate if your turbo is not internally gated
A downpipe that will accomodate the wastegate if you have it (or a dump tube)
A wideband O2 sensor and gauge (datalogging is a plus)
A boost gauge
An oil pressure gauge (preference but as you have the o2 gauge you shouldn't need an EGT gauge)
A boost controller (not needed but great for turning up the boost)
A turbo timer (saves the oil cooled turbo from having a premature death)
A nice clutch (southbend clutch is a great company to start with)
A nice walboro 255lph (you could go lower but they cost the same)
A nice FMU or SFMU or some type of aftermarket fuel pressure regulator
Stainless steel oil feed lines (-4an)
Stainless steel oil return lines (-10an; and you need to tap your oil pan)
A nice new exhaust (GS-T catbacks will fit our cars)
A nice tune to really set things off
A documentary thread on 2gnt.com and dsmtuners.com (just like this one)

Most of all, have fun. We will help you with whatever we can.

The only part of the exhaust you can use is the cat-back. The injectors can be use but you will also need a resistor pack. If you're only going to run 8-9psi, just keep your stock injectors and get a 255lph hp fuel pump and a 12:1 FMU. With this fuel system you can run your 8-9psi of boost on your stock internals. As for a differant turbo, you could get a 16G, B16G, or 20G from Hahn, which come with the T3 flange.

Edit:

Just look at everyones profile to get an idea on what to get.

You more than likely don't need to run 18 psi on the streets. C16 and higher boost will suffice for the track.

You are entitled to your own needs, but at 18psi, you will be inconvenienced more than aided by the surplus of power.

16G on a 420A... flipped around like Locke was telling you.
