JT Power, using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and caps are REQUIRED when posting in the tech sections. I'm moving your thread to 420A bolt on section so you'll get better responses that are specific to your application.

First of all, update your profile with all the mods you got. Any idea what you FP (fuel pressure) is and do you have a missing link or FCD? If you don't have a missing link or FCD, you're experiancing fuel cut. On late '96+ 2g n/t's you'll need a missing link or FCD (contact Paul for a FCD). I not sure what you ment above, but i'm guessing you haven't upgraded your fuel pump, yet. If so, STOP boosting unless you want to blow your motor. You can get the Walbro 255lph HP fuel from extremepsi.com for about $100.

I'd turn down the boost as much as possible till you get a fuel pump.

A little on the FCD... Some stupid ass kid here in town has a 97 Talon ES... He ordered some turbo shit from ebay... which isn't a bad thing, but he thought he could just boost it and go. Like its some honda or something... everytime he boosted, it would cut out hard and he eventually blew his motor to ****. He didn't know about the proper way to boost a NT DSM. Actually every NT/T setup I've seen local, has not setup any mising link or FCD... and lately I've seen two of thier vehicles at the local U Pull It, another one was that kid, and another one is broken down with a blown motor at thier friends shop...

yeah i bought the car like this.... the guy i bought it from said it used to run just fine, and the boost controller screen got stolen. It had a greddy profec boost controller.. now i got a manual one ### it's much cheaper... and i just wanna get it fixed, ### running no boost stinks hard.

You need a ML or FCD, as Abe mentioned previously. The lack of this device is likely the cause of your fuel cut.

ML=Missing Link; Essentially, a mechanical check valve with a very low cracking pressure that prevents boost from reaching the MAP sensor.
FCD=Fuel Cut Defender; A solid state voltage clamp that prevents the boosted MAP signal from reaching the ECU.

Both of these devices have the same function, to prevent the ECU from reading boost and cutting fuel. The FCD is generally preferred. CI Motorsports sells both ML's and FCD's. Our friendly neighbourhood moderator VelocitàPaola (a.k.a. Paul) also makes and sells FCD's. IIRC, Paul's FCD's cost less than those sold by most other places.

It's not always fuel cut! My 91' talon was falling on it's face around half throttle and it was the THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR! Check for engine codes before u go spending money on parts u may not need.

Yes and no. :)

A ML/FCD is required on 96+ 2gnt's when boosting with the factory ECU still having any control over the injectors. His operating without one will cause fuel cut.

It is a very good idea to check engine codes whenever the vehicle doesn't behave as expected.

The Air Flow Sensor of 2g NT DSM's or Avengers sense at WOT like what is it, 5 volts? And when you put more air in, aka forced induction or boost, it reads more... I dont know about ML, but the Fuel Cut Defender makes it so that the maximum the sensor will see, even under boost is 5volts. If it sees more then 5 volts, it will cut the fuel.

A local kid boosted his 97 Talon ESi. He didn't take my advice for help, and now he needs a new motor. He went onto ebay, ordered a very similar setup to what I had in my 98, thinking that he could just bolt it up, and go! Every time I told him that you can't, he responded to me as if I was a dumbass and didn't know what I was talking about. Even tho I'm like one of two people in this city that hasn't blown a motor under boost.

Also, I sold most of my setup (the bolt on stuff) to one of my previous customers, telling them what they need to do, to successfully boost the motor I just installed for them... Well the car recently showed up at the local U-Pull-It... with a blown motor.

So like Locke says, don't boost without it... Fuel cut = bad!

I never bought a FCD from Paul... But I would trust him with it, or any 420A requirement over anyone else. He is also (if he still is) working on a plug n Play setup for the best Stand Alone system we could ever use for the 420ATurbo, the MSnS

alright i will definately get an fcd before i think about boosting... thank u guys for helping me out with this... do u know how much he charges for a fcd???

wow... i was out driving around and stepped on it a lil past a 1/4 throttle and did not cut out.. so i gave it full throttle and it did not cut out and pulled pretty hard.. in the process of full throttle my boost gauge quit in the position when the car is off.. i pulled over to check my engine and my battery cables came off... i dont know if it messed with the ecu or what.. my boost gauge still does not work i think it has a short..... what do u guys think??

Possible the ECU shut off, or didn't have enough power to run properly... I had a battery cable pop off as I was on the freeway, and drove some 10 miles without it. All on Alternator.

On this yellow ricer eclipse I had the pleasure of blowing the motor (a customer car that had me build him a seperate motor for...), We ran the car at idle, and pulled the ECU harness off... the car kept running. I'm not sure how long, if it did or didn't shut off. I can't remember, it was last year.

Ok... I'm looking at this from a different point of view... I see you have a full Hahn Turbo Setup... Side Mount or Front mount? You got the portfuler setup with it?

maybe you do already have a Missing Link or Fuel Cut Defender... since the guy said it was working fine... Your car started having problems, you replaced a part, ecu still gave off the wrong numbers... ecu was reset and now its relearned everything and is running proper now...

Only way to know for sure is to look at the MAP Sensor, see if it looks modified. I'm willing to bet there is something attached to it, and you just had a stupid problem that was fixed and went away with a simple ECU Reset...

Anyone?
