Hey guys

On my 1995 eclipse GS, I recently had some motor work done and I just got my car back from the shop. I noticed that the overflow tank for the coolant is not bolted down. It sits on this lip but keeps falling and rubbing on my water pump belt. I see a place on the tank where you can use a bolt, but there is nothing to bolt it too. I suppose there is some type of bracket supposed to be there, but I dont have anything to attatch it to. Can someone post a pic of how the overflow tank bolts up?? Any info would be great.

Thanks.....

Water pump belt? WTF

That'd be the timing belt... unless you're talking about the accessory belt.

Indeed, the coolant overflow bottle does not bolt up to anything; it should wedge nicely on that upright "lip." I don't know what to tell you to try fixing it. Try some of that heavy duty 3M exterior foam tape.

Put a small dab of any glue on the very top of the lip. I use an adhesive we use on the bikes. Whenever we are putting new grips on the handlebars we use this stuff called "GOOP". It works as a strong tacky glue, but if you need to remove it, it'll all crumble apart and leave the original surface clean again.

***update**** so I finally got some free time to tackle this issue and I found a spot o the tank that is puntured all the way through, it must have come from rubbing on the pulley while it popped off the "lip". my question is, what do you guys recommend to repair this hole? im guessing some type of 2 part epoxy but I want to make sure it will bond with the material of the tank.

thanks again dsmtuners gods....

pick a part/ junk yard, and find another one.....in th mean time use a plastic bottle or something to that effect, that is securely placed in the bay and out of the way of any moving parts.

Ive checked the two junk yards around here, and no luck. is there anything I could use to be a permanent fix? There has to be some type of plastic epoxY?

Same problem here, I used an epoxy then set mine back on the lip.....however went to remove it and it cracked again. But I would try a gatorade bottle and perhaps zip tie it to the lip, rather ghetto i know but perhaps a slite fix till you get a bottle that doesn't have a leak in it....

I left mine unsecured one night and it got tore up from belt rub. I use some black silcone adhesive and it seem to be holding up just fine (or at least till I blew my motor).

There are two-part polymer epoxies I have used to fix plastic radiator end tanks, coolant reservoir's, clips, and other various plastic pieces. I bought some at AutoZone or Advance years ago.

You could check out these links for another option:

www.hotairtools.com/how_to_weld___.htm

Neither welding plastic nor using the epoxies are difficult, and are second only to a salvaged reservoir.
