St.Albert,
I know that the 95 420a ecu has had problems with failing on people after awhile.

So my question is i was having problems with a engine flare or idle problems. I am rebuilding the my engine and am going with the MsNS, Will i still have to worry about the ecu failier if i am running the standalone.

And if the MsNS dosen't prevent whatever is going to fail with my ecu then should i have concerns about it failing when i go to do some passes on the strip or on the dyno for that.
(I think the ecu was going to fail if not the cause for my concerns prior.)

When you have MSnS calling all the shots, you might be able to eliminate the ECU altogether... all you'll need is a good +5V and +9V source for a few wires, an alternator output voltage regulator (available from an old Dodge Omni), and a way to control things like fans, A/C, etc... (easy). Also, you'll need to adjust the idle somehow. That probably wouldn't really be a problem if you lived in a climate with relatively consistent temperatures, but you might have to get a fast idle valve (directly controlled by MSnS) or a needle valve or something.

Until MSnS is controlling everything, though, you're still vulnerable to the effects of a failing ECU. Now, I personally wouldn't jump into full spark and fuel control, however. You'll want to run fuel for a while, to get the hang of the MS interface and tuning in general.

So the alt. voltage output regulator would be something pretty useful for the MSnS install? Should it be on the list if you want the extra controls? Or does the ECU still need to remain there?

Complete ECU elimination is really only an option once you have MSnS up and running flawlessly. I recommend keeping the stock ECU for as long as possible. A failing unit shouldn't cause much trouble so long as it isn't controlling fuel and spark (just peripherals).
