420a - A/t

Hi there, just bought myself a '99 Eclipse for about 6 weeks ago.
It has automatic transmission, and i wonder how this works if i want to power it up with turbo. I have about $5500 to work with.

It the stock A/T good enough for a turbokit?
Is it any different to install a turbokit with A/T than with M/T?
I a total newb here, so please help..

i have a 420a with a a/t and turo and it holds up fine. i asked the same question a while ago and VelocitàPaola (paul) said that the a/t are pretty beefy stock. i have not had any problems up to this point in time, i currently have 108xxx and everything is fine. (i do "rod" it some weekends also)

What turbokit should i go for? Im looking at either:

Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Kit
or
Star Performance Stage 2 Turbo Kit 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse/Talon Non-Turbo

Will these fit with ATX?

And, upgrading my ATX with finaldrive, shiftkit and cooling maybe?
Have not found any of these parts, so where can i find these? (Direct link is much appreciated!)


Edit: Brakes and exhaust will also be upgraded. Any suggestions?

There aren't a whole lot of A/T upgrades to begin with, so just play nice and you'll be fine (especially with the mods you listed).


I've always recommended Hahn kits because of their customer support and superior quality (for most parts). Their kit should work fine with an ATX.

Just get better discs and pads as far as your brakes go. Brembo OE solid rotors and some decent pads (no AutoZone brands!) should do.

For the exhaust, buy a muffler and high-flow cat on eBay, then have a local exhaust shop fabricate the rest of the exhaust using pre-bent mandrel bends of the appropriate size. It should cost less than whatever you were previously planning on doing, and I'm sure the quality will be good too.


You get the final drive gear from the dealer... part #4773275 (that's a Dodge/Chrysler number, I believe).

You can get the shift kit from Napa... part #K72908J

You can set up a tranny cooler a million different ways, so you're on your own there.

Which shop has the best prices? I have found some good shops, but they don't ship to Europe. And i don't know of any shops in Europe which sell HRC..

Any ideas?

Oh... I didn't even notice you're in Europe.

Try contacting HRC. They sell direct to customers, and may be able to ship to Europe.

Unfortunately, I don't know about the rest. Your sources for parts are limited over there, so I guess your best bet is to keep looking online until you find someone who will process international orders.

Would you mind telling me what i should buy in addition to the turbokit?
Brakes, A/T filter and cooling i know of. But i don't want the car to break on me, so all tips are welcome.
