Hey guys i was just wondering what motor or motors will fit into a 98 Eclipse GS, Mainly looking for a newer motor.

Thanks

well the 98GS has the 420a motor, i believe on the 98 and new non turbo spyders they have th 2.4L motor, but I'm not sure what the engine code is. I believe with some modification it would more than likely swap over no problem, and of course you can always get the 4g63, but you'll need a new tranny probably for most of these motors and probably different front axles.

2G GS-Ts and GSXs have the turbocharged Mitsubishi DOHC 2.0L 4G63 engine.
Spyders have the Mitsubishi SOHC 2.4L 4G64 engine (similar to the 4G63).
2G GSs and RSs have the Chrysler DOHC 2.0L 420A engine.

Anything powertrain related from a 420A car is not compatible with those same components from a 4G63 or 4G64 car. If you want to swap a different engine in your car, swap another 420A in (maybe a built 420A?).

Swapping a 4G63 into your car is not a good idea. The reason why has been discussed before many times, so we'll not get into it here.

No offense to the 4g63 guys, but if you don't know for sure about swapping a 4g63 into a 420a'd car, I would suggest not replying.
