Re-installation of emissions equipment

ok Im getting a 97 rs thats already been turboed. the engine has already been built its got 8:5:1 je piston and eagle rods the car is fully built but 1 bad thing is there is no evap stuff on the car and I cant get it inspected because of emissions laws around here so I was wondering how hard is it to put the evap system back on

It's not too hard to do, but I'm unsure of what it will cost. You may want to contact a Mitsu dealer and find out what parts would be involved other than the EGR itself. It's definitely something you can do yourself as long as you know the vacuum line routing. Or, you can specify that the previous owner re-install the parts if you're that concerned about it.

Hit up the 2GNT sale/wanted section to see if anyone has a part out going on. Chances are they just removed the EGR solenoid on the head and the pipe that runs from it to the intake manifold. Seldom does anyone actually remove the charcoal cannister. I used to have something like three EGRs just lying around, but last I saw them, they were in a trash can. Good luck to you.

First of all, the "EVAP" system is one component of the emissions reduction system. It sounds to me like you're lacking all emissions equipment; so, in the future, call it "emissions," rather than just "EVAP."

Second, your biggest challenge, like Brian said, will be sourcing the parts. Patrol the 2GNT classifieds for people getting rid of their own emissions parts. Once you feel like you can't get any more parts, you'll have to start calling the dealer to get whatever else you need.

In case you didn't now, 2GNT has the Mitsubishi CAPS program in HTML format online: this should help you greatly in identifying which remaining parts you need, and what part numbers correlate to those parts.

If this guy was serious about removing emissions equipment, he likely would have removed the entire EVAP system, the EGR system, and the catalytic converter.

The first two are easily replaced. The cat might be harder to re-install depending on which exhaust you have - you might want to take your car to an exhaust shop for a high flow cat.

I just found out that it will be OK to get the car. As long as the car is inspected in the county Im buying from I dont have to have it reinspected in my county and the emissions inspection stops at 97 next year so I wont have to worry about it next year.Man I love North Carolina laws.
