This is part 2 from http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226592&highlight=smoking+problem Ok guy and gals I have new info for yall for my problem. I took the head to go get pressured tested, resurfaced, and cleaned. I got it back they said the presured test came out great. So I put everything back togather and started it up. A little bit of smoke was coming out, waited for it to warm up all the way, and it started to smoke more. Gave it a little gas and more smoke the more gas it gets the more smoke comes out. So someone tells me I might have blown the piston rings. So I did a compression test today and got 200 195 195 190. I think I did the compression test right. I disconnected the ignition coil, unpluged all wires, took out all plugs, and kept the throttle body all the way open then put the gauge on the first cyl, then went into car and cranked about 5-10 times untill the gauged stoped going up. Then moved on down the line. So if anyone has anyother ideas please let me know thanks.

so the shop said the valve seals were fine? what about the spark plug holes of the valve cover gasket? If you have an aftermarket intake like an injen short ram for instance, it has a little vacuum nipple in the pipe did you plug it or run some vacuum hose to your valve cover?
 
Turn the car on and when it's smoking take it for a drive around the block and see if the smoking contiunes, gets worse, or gets better.

You've got great compression, but if you haven't yet you still need to do a leak down test. It'll help pinpoint the exact cause of the smoking.
 
Yeah if it's your rings then a leak-down test would benefit you more then a compression test...
 
Did you get new TTY headbolts, or buy ARP head studs? TTY headbolts can only be used once.

Also, are all of the headbolts/studs torqued to the proper specifications, and were they torqued in the proper order?

I asked the shop and they said that everything looks good and I didnt need a vavle job. I have a aem short ram and I put the hose that came with it from the vavle cover to the intake.

Ill take it for a spin tomorrow and see how she does. How much does a leakdown test cost most of the time?

I reused the head bolts because none of them were stretch and in good order. and I TQ them down the same as this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231103.
