i was just awair that in my town you have to have an exhaust that caan't be heard 75ft. away....
i have a 1g and i need a exhaust
should i just buy a universal one with a silencer or what...

Thats funny. I actually had a cop pull me over saying my exhaust was too loud. He told me that "Cars like this aren't meant to be that loud. Just because you can buy aftermarket parts for these cars doesn't make them legal to use on the streets." Then I questioned him about the 7 or 8 mustang 5.0s in my neighborhood all with flowmaster exhaust and gutted cats and he's like "those cars are meant to be loud yours isn't." I just did a cat back with a magna flow muffler (no silencer). This is the only problem I've had, and in my area, the town I live in is known as having the strictest cops with the least to do. I know this really doesn't answer your question, but putting exhaust on and then leaving a silencer in kinda defeats the purpose of opening up both the flow and the sound. Besides the stronger look of performance exhaust I'd say save your money and do an intake first or something. I've never had a problem since, and he ended up letting me off, but it was just the fact that I got pulled over for a 4 banger being "too loud". Seems a little crazy.

I live in Cali and we get harassed all the time. I said the same thing as FrostByte when I got pulled over and they let me go. Out here it is more checking for NOS than anything else. I have the ApexI N-1 on my 98 GS and have not got pulled over with this one. The super silencer helps a little and for some reason (I'm a novice) gives me a little more power.....

in Washingtong the law is 95Db and the cops will give you a ticket but all you have to do is go to a exhaust shop and get it tested and take it to court. been pulled over 2 times have yet to have to pay for the ticket.
