At work we got a scanner (Finally) And I read the code thats on my 97 N/T auto.
The code reads "Manufacters auxillary Emissions control"
So my question is now, 5 shops couldnt tell me wants wrong, anyone else have an Idea?
This I should get an SAFC? See if I can tune the code out?
I live in PA, and with this code on, no one will pass the emissions for me!
I have reset it but it comes back on the 3rd start. And it stays in the computer so I cant get the emissions to pass!
GRRRRRRRRRR!!!
I hate PA!
Thanx in advance!

I say keydance it and give us a 2-digit CEL.

EGR (32)? Resistor mod.
EVAP (31)? You're screwed. I've had this one for over four years now and nothing I've done fixes it. I just remembered there are some vac lines near the EVAP shit in that fender I can replace, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Even so, I'll still have the 32 for EGR and the rear O2 telling me the cat is bad, and then MS goes in and all hell's gonna break loose. :sneaky:

Wait, is this refearing to p1494 code? I have that code and it doesn't want to go away, i've already replace the Leak detetion pump (well, a mechanic did) but that didn't get rid of it and he pretty much said that the whole thing was not harmful to the car at all. I've been pretty confused and I think that "emissions" thing that the orginal poster had problems with....

the key dance test says its code 31 and in the book i have it says EVAP fault
ah the joys of having a dsm ha but you gotta love them

Might try replacing the vac lines going to and from everything in there. I have yet to do that myself. It won't hurt anything, but you will not pass emissions with a CEL for it. :(

Well, the lines are replaced, and nothing yet. I am wondering if there is a Small Crack in the Metal lines?
You guys think there will be any harm in gettin smoke in the metal lines?
I figure that is really the only way to find out for sure.

That is actually how you are supposed to check for leaks in the evap system. Other than a leak check the following: 1. Gas cap is not sealing properly (usual culprit of an evap code) 2. evap solenoid on top of charcol canister inop 3. Charcol canister filled with liquid gas (probally from topping off at the pump) Those are the simple fixes that I can think of off the top of my head, also since the car is OBD II the code will just keeping coming on till the problem is corrected. Besides if you need a emissions sticker bad enough come to Jeannette and slip them a $20 I passed like that with no cats or any other emissions controls for that matter.

i find a common one is the evap canister filling up or the hose right off the TB gets dry rotted and leaks
