I know this has been posted like a million times but I searched and has not been posted for my specific reasons, so here's my question, I live in Arizona so heat in summer is like hell and so is pavement so I read that a cold air intake would do nothing for me in summers and besides some streets have no pavement and there's a lot of fine dust and sand that the cold air intake would suck to the engine... I don't know if the filter would retain the dust but what about the heat, so what do you recommend me the cold air or short ram?

I'd still recommend a CAI, yes the pavement will be throwing off heat but keep in mind that the filter is located behind an air dam in your front bumper so as you drive it'll be sucking up the cold air that flows through the bumper (I hope that made sense, I'm really tired). The filter would get dirty easier due to all the dust, so just clean it more than you normally would; every oil change should suffice. short rams just end up sucking in hot air from the engine bay so once again, I'd go with a CAI

hot pavement is not really going to make an impact on your cold air intake... the whole idea is that the filter is getting fresh moving air instead of hot air radiating from your motor. the air coming of your manifold and motor is going to be alot warmer than that off the pavement. definately go with the cold air, i have an injen which is in two pieces which makes for a convient cold air to short ram conversion during the wet season. :dsm:

so does the cold air intake besides more power does it also improves gas mileage better then the stock or the short ram?

sure it will, I wouldn't be expecting it to be extremely noticable but there should be a slight difference

you would see a difference on a dyno
not much of one
but there would be a difference

Where the hell is San Luis, Arizona?

I say, the cheapest one you can get your hands on, be it used name brand or new generic eBay fare. As long as it has a quality filter on the end of it, they're all pretty much the same. Considering what it does in the big picture of 420A tuning, it's not worth more than $100 with a new K&N on it.

im not sure what smog or emissions laws look like in arizona, but i used to live in cali and you have to get an injen or aem, something with C.A.R.B. legal plates. but i had an ebay brand, worked great, then the good old police sent me to the state referee..... :dsm:

yup thats half the reason I got my aem. That and half the price of what I would pay for a normal brand new one :shhh:

Neither am I. I love my college student loop hole that lets me keep my stupid Kansas tags and not do emissions here for 3+ years now. Don't know what I'll do when I graduate.

In any case, we're talking about an intake. It takes all of 5 minutes and a screwdriver to swap back to stock for smog. Who needs CARB? They write you a ticket for your intake, swap back to stock and play dumb, imo. :shrug

Just glad I don't live in Calie. People are plain psycho out there. :D
