My Talon is sick, has some worn piston rings and of course liffters are tapping out. I just want ti to run long enough for me to get a new car ( prob a 2G NT)and sell it. How hard and expensive would it be to replce the items listed above. Is there any writeup available? Thanks :talon:

It depends if you know how to rebuild an engine. Cause its all gonna be apart if you wanna put new rings in.

Yeah I kinda figured that, If I was familiar with rebuilding an engine than I probably wouldnt have posted this.

I am obviously not. I am looking for input on the difficulty of the project.

I never worked on a car a day in my life before my head gasket blew. I ended up tearing the whole engine apart just to see what it was like, not too hard, just time consuming.

building an engine with your own hands is something every man should do in his lifetime. Its not that hard, just make sure you install the piston rings correctly, grease all the bearings good, and torque everything to spec.

I agree... And if you don't want to put the rings in yourself let a machine shop do it. Shouldn't cost you very much. Like $50 at the most. The rest you should be able to do with no problem. Or you can just get a ring compressor for like $10 and do it yourself. :thumb:

Also how about the lifters??? seems like a simple enough job especially with the Vfaq writeup.

Also Do I need to buy new lifter or can I clean the old ones or go to the yard and get used 2G ones and how many will I need?
