I want to put in a TSI turbo in my talon ESI. is that possible or what:confused: if not what about just droping the TSI motor in it:confused:

im not 100% sure .. but its a costly path

your putting a mitsu engine into a car with a chrysler motor.
you can do it. i just cant tell you all that you have to do.

My car already has a mitsu engine non turbo, but if the engine swap is going to be costly, how about just putting in the stock TSI turbo kit only:confused:

oh duh im slow.. well if you can just find the parts in a junk yard you could work it.. i think youll need a oil feed line, manifold, turbo (t25) and rest of parts..

you can do it, junk parts at a max of 9 psi(with support mods) you can do. Normally though you wll only get to about 190hp without serious work. If you can do the work yourself its viable. If not i wouldnt bother, it would be costly.

The turbo engines run a lower compresion than the non-turbos to allow for more boost. So putting a turbo on a stock 2.0 NT wouldn't help very much without completely redoing the interior of the engine to lower compression. Not to mention the proper exhaust work to allow for the increase in air flow. It would be more cost effective just to sell your NT and buy a Turbo DSM.

I am a little confused... I do not know what engine the ESI comes with, but I have a 97 RS and it has the 420A engine. As far as I know the NT Talon's use the same engine. If that is the case then you can not just "drop" a turbo engine in. The turbo's (talons and eclipses) use the 4g63 engine, a mitsu engine. Evan is right the 420a is a chrysler engine, completely different. If you did want to put a factory turbo engine in your car, you would need a new transmission, new ecu, fabricate motor mounts, etc, etc... It would be way more expensive than buying a turbo kit for your NT engine. Here is a post on 2gnt about swapping engines...

Check it out, it answers better what I tried to say. Good Luck.

there are two different ES's. Look in the model guide. If i remember correctly one has SOHC and the other DOCH and both are 1.8 liters

I agree with brynden29. I thought the talons and eclipses were exactly the same, excluding name, minor body styling, etc. The only non turbo models I know of for that year are the DL and ESi models. Both are non-turbo 2.0L 420a engines. The last year the talons carried a 1.8L was the 1994 models and that was also the last year the 4G63 came in a non-turbo platform. You might want to double check your engine type. It should be indicated under the hood.

Unless you already swapped the engine AND the tranny, you have a Chrysler engine AND tranny. Its a 420A that also comes in Neons.

Both are non-turbo 2.0L 420a engines. The last year the talons carried a 1.8L was the 1994 models and that was also the last year the 4G63 came in a non-turbo platform. You might want to double check your engine type. It should be indicated under the hood.

They are.

1G engines were as follows:
2.0l 4G63 Turbo (all turbo cars)
2.0l 4G63 NA (most non-turbo cars)
1.8L 4G37 NA (the rest of the non-turbo cars)

2G engines were as follows:
2.0l 4G63 Turbo (all turbo cars)
2.0l 420A NA (all non-turbo cars)

This is regardless of whether its a Talon, Eclipse, or Laser.

First some info:

90-94 Eclipse, Talons, and Lasers bring 3 engines:

2.0L 4g63 Turbo
2.0L 2g63 Non-turbo
1.8L SOHC Non-turbo

95-99

2.0L 4g63 turbo
2.0L Chrysler 420a non-turbo
2.0L 4g63 Non-turbo (Europe non-turbo models)

Now for the original question about turboing the 2.0 4g63 in his car. Here in Jacksonville, Fl a shop actually performed a swap from a 2.0L 4g63 non-turbo to the cyclone 4g63 jap-spec turbomotor. They said it was a pain in the ass!!! There are MANY components the non-turbo motor doesn't have that the turbo one does, eventhough it seems like a direct swap. And in the end the tranny would'nt work with the turbo motor either.

You can bolt up the exhaust manifold from a turbo model to your non-turbo motor, but you will need many other components ranging from intercooler, to fuel, to oil cooler, etc... And you run the risk of your high compression motor not being able to handle boost.

I have the chrysler 2.0 and our engines are COMPLETELY different.

Best advice to give you is get an already turbo charged car rather than doing a swap. Unless you want to rebuild that motor, then you can lower the compression and make the engine stronger, while purchasing better components like bigger turbo, intercooler, and fuel stuff.

Either way Good Luck!!!
