OK tomorow im going to take my completely stock (muffler and suspension) 98 2.0 eclipse gs to the track. are there anythings i can do to maximize performance at the track?? i plan on running on about 1/4 tank of gas or less (93 octane) and removing my spare tire. is there anything else i can do either at home, or right before i run at the track to get the best perfromance from my car? ive been to the track once before in my vw corrado, but i only got to run 3 times i think, so im still pretty much a drag racing newbie. any info is appriciated. im hoping to run 16.5 btw, is that reasonable?? thanks

How far is the track? Do you have a buddy going with you in a different car?

Reason i ask is because my friend took his car w/ no spare and guess what....his tire blew  .....

Umm to prep? Maybe an octane booster (although it wont do much good it will give you a psych boost :p )...Make sure your air filter is clean....good shifts

Good Luck....let us know what you run.

change your oil. i never run a motor hard with dirty oil. check tire pressure, spark plugs, checlk there gaps, id run fuel injector cleaner to be safe.

this is all just me, i liek things clean and working properly.

yea i just changed the oil about 2 days ago, so im good there. ill check tire pressure, spark plugs etc. shouldnt my tire pressure be a little low in the front? what psi should i run?

and yea im trying to get a good baseline in before i start modding.

I will say:
Start praccticing how to launch the car without burning tires!
Just practice, and be sure to have a good reaction time (look somebody else racing so you will know how the light (tree) work).
And don't forget!
HAVE FUN!!

Judging by your time, I wouldn't listen to this guy.

I'd say some of the cheap things to do would be pull out your air filter, and lower the front tire pressure.

HAha you are funny! :thumbdown
One thing is the car and the other thing is the driver!
And i am not OMG to show it thought!
BTW That time slip will change! soon!

Edgewater in Cleves,OH. However i wasnt able to make it this friday, so im planning on going next. I noticed your from Hamilton. I live in Milford if you know where that is. Are there any dsm meets around here? would you be interested in getting some dsm's together to head to edgewater next friday? :thumb:

ya what the guy above said......take out ur air filter just before the race....and lower ur front tire pressure...remember...dont wait till u see green to go...usually leave at the 3rd yellow light....and just hope for the best..im willing to bet you will see times in the low 17's...

PLEASE,do not put fuel injection cleaner in your car for no reason.Fuel injection cleaner loosens all the gunk in your gas tank anf it could actually ruin your fuel pump.I am very much spectical on some aditives.A lot of these additives out in the market are just a gimmick to take SUCKERS money and can ruin your car.I mean c'mon Iv'e even seen TUNE-UP in a bottle :barf: .Octane booster is about as far as i like to go.Anyways have fun at the track and don't be afraid to ask questions and for tips. Most of the guys will help you out. :dsm: :thumb:

heh I'd like to but I work on friday's. I know a couple people from Milford, I've never been to that track though, my car is in no condition to race anyway LOL.

There's java applications online to test your reaction time, too, you could always practice on something like that. When you've got a slow car, it's all about the driving.

Take off your air filter and lower tire pressure a lot. Other than that nothing really. My talon ( 95 n/t ran a 16.5 with just an intake ) however I don't see why you would even bother going to the track with a car like that. I know even turbo dsms get ripped on unless they run faster than a 13.5 at my local tracks. btw .. I didn't run my talon at the track - the previous owner did. I was there the same day running my gsx and I watched him run it and you wouldn't believe all the shit people in the stands and even officials were talking when they see a car that slow run. No offense man but wait till the car is fast and then go to the track. Maybe go gtech it instead? It's a lot cheaper too.

Don't base your decision to go to the track on what other people think. It's your car and your decision. If you want to have fun racing it at the track, you can. As for peeps mocking you in the crowd, where's their car?

exactly. who gives a shit what people in the stands are saying, im sure you would smoke the shit out of there minivan(i would hope). dont "wait till your car is fast", if that were the case there would be like 4 420a's out there, and many of the 2gn's have times

u are completey f-in retarded.....how fast does ur gsx run? low 13's high 12's? ya thats fast  ...try rollin in a tubbed out nova w/ a 502.....ur comparing apples to oranges.....our cars are alot faster than most of the imports that run at tracks...which usually net mid 17's to low 18's....then u have those ppl in the stands booing your car but then when they go home their jumpin in their 1987 toyota turcell w/ 70 horsepower....dont listen to him...theirs a thing called bracket racing where u could prove to be a better driver than those tools who dump wads of cash in thier car but cant even cut a decent light :thumbdown

Always remember the track is much better than sitting on your butt at your house thinking about what your car could do. I was afraid of what people would say when they first saw my car run (17.023) but when you get up to the light there is no bigger adrenaline rush. You have the crowd on your sides the lights out in front and someone who thinks they can win in the other lane. No matter what your car runs most of the V8 guys will be friendlier to you than to most of the Honda's. If you need any tips on getting your times down just ask someone at the track becuase we are all in it for the same reasons.
