How much RPM..

Okay, I was just wondering. From a stop, and when you step on da GAS, how much does the RPM go up? lets say.. to get to 40mph. what is the rpm for the first gear? and how long does it take to go from 1- 40 (normal driving conditions)

i get to 40 in 1st if i give it a go until redline...altho i get to 40 and then it switches so....yup 40 is the top of 1st for me

If you keep it in first all the way to 40, you're just about gonna blow your engine. If I had to guess, it should take 4 seconds to reach 40 before you hear your engine explode.

sorry, i forgot to say im AUTO. I mean, i think my tranny is just messed up. Its been like this since i got the car, and it hasnt changed. Shouldnt the tranny be wacked by now? I mean, i need to step on the gas till it goes up to 5k to actually go a lil fast.. like to 30mph and it changes gears and goes up like 4k and changes gears.
Just wondering.

Oh well, I don't get on mine often. In fact, I've never pushed it past redline on the scale. But I'm nearly redline (35mph) before 6k so I was just assuming.

Not really, that's just the humble power of the 420a engine. There should be an overdrive switch on your shifter, but I don't know if that just applies to the 2gb models. But if you're uncertain, I'd take it to the dealer to check it etc.

need more details... maybe like how many miles on the car, any aftermarker mods done to it... something along those lines... let us know... My guess if possible get it checked out to be on the safe side!

mods are.. catback exhaust and intake. its still slow^^ yea, im saving up money for the tranny job...i had the money, but i spent it on something else.

Tonite, i was driving it pretty hard, like pushing the GAS petty hard. while i was driving, the oil light flashed on and off real quick. After that, i stopped and looked at the oil dip, and it was sorta dry. I wiped it and dipped it again to make sure, and there was oil. Dunno what happened.

I dont think it's the oil to be honest... Im not very knowledged with DSM's but my guess is obvisouly the tranny. When was the last time u changed fluids.... maybe u havent done that yet... I know with my present car (99 camaro z28) a good tranny flush and new fluids is a quick cure for shitty tranny's! Try getting your tranny fluids replaced and then get back to us...

ya at about 35 is when my car redlines in first. but its manual. for autos 40 is fine, but i dont think you can get there in first with a manual.
