heres the deal. my old battery i thought was dead. so today i went and bought a new one. installed it. while installing it my rachet it the positive terminall and threw sparks(dont no if it has anything to do with the problem)...when i turn the ignition on all it does is click ...the engine doesnt turn over...jes sits there and makes a clicking noise...now the previous battery did the same thing and made the same exact noise. soo somthing tells me its not the battery. On the dash, there are a couple lights that stay lit when the ignition is on: the battery light, the seat belt light, the brake light(even though the brake wasnt on) and some other orange light that looks like a building(LOL) its towards the left side of the steering wheel. i dont no wat that one is...but i really need this car running as soon as possible ...PLEASE let me know how to fix this or any info u can help me with. thanks .

Does it turn at all, or just click? Maybe you didn't hook up a ground somewhere. Make sure you hooked up all your ground wires, and double check on the battery ground

The only thing i can think is that you might have blown the engine fuse. The the fusebox under the hood, on the top left corner there is a fuse that is a 30A engine fuse. Look at it and if it has black stuff in the plastic or if the metal in it is broken then you need to replace it. This might not be the problem, but its worth a look. hope this helps.

does your stereo work? if it does, then it probably is your starter. find it, take an iron rod, and while someone is trying to turn it over, prod and poke really hard at it, or even kinda stab it with the rod, and it might start right off. dont know if it will work for dsm's, but it works on chevy's :p if your car starts while doing this, its your starter.

well u did what i did basicly....i fried my ecu....sucks big balls....but check that fuse first....if not that its ur ecu....best way to tell is to see if it throws numbers when u hook it up to a computer....or when u turn ur car to acc....u hear the fuel pump click.....if not....its a no go

wow, I'm lucky then. I dropped my 0 gauge wire on my ecu when I was putting my system in. It got a really good hit on it, and it still works fine. Biggest spark explosion I've ever seen!

You didn't list year/engine so this may not apply. If you have a 2.0 4g63 NT engine then look by the battery where all the fuses are. There should be an 80amp fuse. I have blown that fuse twice and it can be deceptively difficult to find.
When you look through the clear window on top of the fuse it "should be" visible if the fuse is blown...but it is possible ('cause it happened to me) to fry off one of the connections under the fuse.
Give it a look see.

Check for corrosion where your battery terminals make connection. I had a very similar problem with my car... Parked it at a mall parking lot and 15 minutes later it wouldn't start. It did the same clicking thing you're talking about... Turns out that after trying a new battery (like you did) all I needed was some new terminal posts and a little cleaning around the battery. It might be something just that simple.

if you have an alarm that has a starter kill, and it's not connected to the battery then your car will do the tick you are describing. So check and make sure you didn't leave ANY wires away from the battery, search all around the whole thing. If not it's starter selenoid/starter. Good luck.

oh, when you find whatever the problem is, make sure you post it, now I'm curious
