Okay,so I was'nt sure if I should have posted this in the newbie section but here goes.I was wondering if there was a way to add like 30 hp by adding a computer chip to the 420a?I really don't know anything abut comuter managment or whatnot and am wondering by adding a chip could I boost power.I mean, not like a fuel managment system, but a chip. Also price.Could this be done for like 700-800 dollars or am I looking at thousands? Also,my car's an automatic. It's also a 97 if that helps.:dsm:

Ah,come on guys!8 people have viewed this and not one of you have an answer?I figured with this being the n/t forum, you'd all know your stuff.Oh,well.Guess I'll have to go ask the turbo guys and be told I should give up and buy a GST or GSX.

Thanks guys, for your replies. So,Malenko, your sayng that catback, intake,& cam tining adjustment will do the trick.Okay, that sounds good.I already have the catback done. All I need to do to that is get a dowpipe and a header.End of this month,I'm gettin' a AEM cold air induction system installed. So I should be set!But after all that, could I still do ecu work.I would be looking at like 200 hp that way! Not as much as a turbo, but not bad!So am I right about this?Just got to look up Jet Performance, right?

From what I have heard, an ECU upgrade is done when you have everything done to the car that you want performance wise. THEN you send the ECU to .... lets say JET and you let them know what mods you have done to your car. Then they take that info and tailor the ECU to your cars mods. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

i dunno if 200 is a realistic number.. remember HP improvements aren't necessarily cumulative.. each mod will give you an HP boost in a slightly different RPM range, so you can't just add all the gains together and come up with a number... just a thought... but it seems like you're well on your way to some good N/T mods

By the way, a header is for N/T cars and Downpipes are on turboed cars. Can't have both, just for info's sake.

so if you planning on to add a turbo to a nt...getting a header is useless..
right??is there anything else you wont be needing if you planning on getting a turbo in the future?

the cold air intake wont be able to be used when you turbo the car and the headers are replaced by a turbo exhaust manifold and down pipe.
If your going to get a turbo Im not sure messing with the ECU is a great idea either.

Im prepping for a turbo myself (when I can finally save up enough) so instead of getting a well known CAI like AEMs I got the 25 dollar ebay special. That way I have an OK CAI and wont lose much money when I have to toss it (or put it on my sisters neon)

If your looking for a "chip" to tune your car get an Apexi S-AFC, an Air Fuel gauge and tune it up a bit. (lots of guides around) and when you turbo the car you can still use the SAFC. They are all over ebay for 300+shipping)

200HP seems a little too high of a rating your prolly looking at more like 175HP tops until you have forced induction or even nitrous oxide (please refrain from any nawwwzzzz comments).
