unstable rpms??????

for some reason lately, if I'm at a complete stop, my car seems to idle a little unsteady. For example, my rpms usually rest at 900, but lately have been jumping to 1100 and back down to 900 while at a stop Is that something to trip about??

that's called an idle surge.. my car does that too.. it's usually your throttle body is dirty or your biss o ring is out of line.. nothing to trip about unless it bothers you that much.. it is a known problem in 1st gen dsm's

97s don't have a biss, my car did this for awhile and i took it to my mechanic and he said there is probably nothing wrong, sometimes the computer gets "lazy" and doesn't control the idle like it should, mine sometimes surges like that too when the ac is on and another accessory like the engine fan turns on or off.

that's actually something easy to fix... all you gotta do is take off your intake boot at the throttle body, take a can of carburator cleaner and clean out your idle circuit venturi. it is located before the butterfly to the back side of the intake throat. clean it out and your car will run great!
