4G64 Spyder NT 150MPH Project Car

okay i picked up a mint condition 1998 Spyder with a 2.4 NT engine in it. the car is heavy and sloooowww. Im looking to build it up a bit. not looking too run 12s at the track but more looking to be able to keep up with these high speed hondas and volkswagons that have been toasting me on the highway. im not a 1/4 mile driver im more a high speed cruiser. right now the car runs about 115MPH and it takes time to get there. so the past three days have been dedicated to reading about perfomance mods for this motor of which in the after market there seem to be none.

Heres the catch. I want 150MPH and 225HP, so how do i get there.

A turbo for me is doable but what else to start with should be done, for best performance before i bolt up a turbo. does the 4g63t dual cam head swap result in better performance ?? or should i leave the stock headon it. will it affect the performance? is there a reputable company that can port/polish flow bench for max CFM my set of intake/heads/valve/exhaust ports?? maybe over size valves ? like available for the Stealth R/T from http://www.3sxperformance.com/engine-upper.asp also of which i own one of those. what about larger fuel injectors? larger bore throttle body? exhaust ? headers? cam ? under drive pulleys ? maybe i should just ask what combinations of these mods will work together, or conflict with the turbo installation later ? or should i nail them all one by one, then add the turbo. id like to not have to re-do the bottom end. since the block only has 85K on it. and when it gets turboed im looking for less then 10lbs boost. the turbo i am looking at is from dougs dynopower, its the Eclipse 4 Cylinder Kit. now what else needs to be considered to prep for the turbo upgrade? mind you if i can make the car go 150MPH without the turbo i will, mind you im not a drag racer just a fast driver,, and yes the car is an automatic. okay guys let me have it.

150mph in a Convertible is crazy. The car has no rollbar and the stock brakes suck. Man dont get out there and attempt that and kill yourself or someone else and make everyone that is into modding cars look bad. Keep it at the track. And the only thing u can do to that heavy car and make it go that fast is turbo.

DAMN i missed the fact that it is an AUTOMATIC. Ummm either get a turbo kit or another car. Stock 5spd Maximas can hit 150mph.

I have a 97 GS Spyder. I have a modded air filter and muffler (practically stock). I am capable (though I don't condone it) of speeds above 130 mph. Though my car is a manual you should be able to hit similar speeds. If you want performance parts, do a search on this site. There are a few things you could do. You could have an cold air intake manufactured or you could just put a MAS adapter and put on a filter, install a GS-T exhaust, buy the AEM cam gears, buy the RPW header, Magnus pistons. You should just look around you can find many options for that vehicle.

K, dude, you have got to be retarded.....or your car is just ghey! I had my Spyder to 146.......I also used cruise control to get me to 135. It wasn't smart, but I don't care. I don't know why you can't get above 115, hell my car will be at almost 95 without overdrive.....remember it's an auto.

Either you aren't waiting long enough or your speedometer is not calibrated. From the tire size listed in your profile, your speedometer should be accurate. Maybe something else is wrong with the car, but most cars can easily do 120 or more.

2G-specific

hey guys i thought this guy was asking for help, not about what your cars can do, alright man check this out, first off my spyder can hit 120 easliy and i have no problem eating up civics, i have a custom intake and a no-name after market exhaust, right now im doing the head swap, and im going to run a sheet metal intake on it
so first of all if you want speed on a budget you have to get rid of that SOHC and go DOHC, i pulled my heads from a 92 eclipse gs, N/T 4g63, now you have to do alot of work for this to go right but its well worth the effort i think .....now for a little info, first off no one makes intakes for our cars matter of fact no-one makes any kinda parts for out cars but cheer up because out motors are almost the same exact motor that rests in the gsx and gst  ok for underdrive pulleys you can use the crank, powet steering and alternator pulleys for the 4g63T,

headers : if you plan on keeping it N/T you out of luck, maybe a header from a earlier 4g63 N/T will work but it hasnt been done yet. the bolt pattern is the same so it will be easy to bolt on a stock 4g63 turbo system to our cars.....

fuel pump: any that will fit the 2g fwd gst, will work
also if you got vfaq.com you can get directions to swap ecu's, you will get more aggressive fuel maps and you will also have to wire in a resister pack for the fuel injectors.......

its not hard to make power with the car, but is is hard to shed pounds off the car, i havent heard anything about that, but im looking only think i can think of is carbon fiber..and lots of it

!!! I'm sorry... but I just can't condone such a feat on an open highway... Seriously, take it somewhere safe... I have a gs-t... and I have had it to 140 plenty of times... but not anymore... I was on a 2lane highway, going just like the rest of you to hit my govener... And Someone pulled out infront of me... All I can say is I braked like a mother and the car fishtailed... I'm sure you know that most 2 lane highways are not very big.. and not too forgiving with k-rail barriers in the middle and a stainless steel rail guard on the other side... THe car went sideways as I counter steered... The car (3,900lbs+) does not like to turn easily... At one point at about 100 I gave up and let it go where it wanted to... I braced myself and prayed that the 4 point schroth harnesses would atleast let me die INSIDE the car... I was very lucky that I survived.. I was even more lucky that I didnt hit any People (most important to me) or the side rail/barriers (to my car)... Came out the same way I went in only with four bald spotted tires and knocked off alighnment... But it could have been worse... thats Why I do not go above 110 mph in a street race... Seriously... Don't die that way... One of the worst ways I can think of is to die is on cold pavement... But if you are n/t and want to hit high, why not just get upgraded fuel pump w/ regulator, and run a normal/high shot of nitrous when you've reached that point where "your car just won't make it to the ""Spot"" You could use it early in the race and not have to worry about having to wait so long and so high of a speed to beat some ratty Honda with a fart cannon
