auto to manual?

my buddy has a 96 eclipse gs and it's gorgeous.. 1 problem.. it's all icing and no cake.. this thing sucks a$$ when it comes for speed.. he wants to make it quick cuz he's tired of being embarassed in his beautiful car by neons and cavy's.. what i was wondering cuz he wanted to know is how much would it cost to convert his auto to manual?? is this really costly?

i have an auto and am gonna switch to manual. my friend has a transmission that will fit my car perfectly cuz he wrecked his and is gonna sell parts and stuff to me for really cheap. but for now if i do race somebody how should i do it. i know i should hit the power button. do i take the over drive off or leave it on and put it in low and shift it up right before it redlines or should i just leave it in low because it shifts by itself when it is in low??

what are you talkin about?? i am in the dark about automatic transmissions in the 1g dsm's?? what is high what is low?? what's a power button

It's a pain in the ass.

That's the main reason I got rid of my old GS.
