hello everyone, i have a 99 GS 5 speed. i would like to get an intake cause i know our cars could use all the power they can get. i know i'll get maybe like 3-5 to the wheels if im lucky. ok now to my question. i was thinking about getting some mandrel bent piping from homedeopt and makeing either a short ram or if i make a cai by the aem bypass valve to connect the 2 together and then get a k&n filter. so do u guys think its a good idea to do this myself? i think it would be cheaper and i would get the same performance from either brand name or my diy. so what do u guys think, any past experiences would be great, thanks alot in advance:dsm:

I dont have any past experiences with it but what the hell its worth a shot your just gonna have to bend it all to fit, but yea you could save yourself some money and if it doesnt work out then go ahead and spend the money for a CAI, let us know how it works out if u decide this. good luck. :dsm:

the piping doesnt come bent from home depot, you'd have to go to some place with a mandrel bender to do it. Look on ebay. you can get off-brand intakes for pretty cheap and then just buy a nicer filter
:dsm:

ohhh i did not know that the piping did not come pre-bent, so maybe i will llok into the eaby pipes. thanks alot, ill let u guys know what im doing

this is what i did with my DIY CAI(with short pipe)...

i bought a mandrel bent elbow pipe and a half a foot straight pipe...
cut and welded the pipes... my DIY pipe replaced the stock pipe(the black rubber thingy) connecting my Airbox and throttle body(i also used a pair of hoses to connect the pipe and throtthle/airbox)...
after that using my OEM canister.... i connected a flexible pipe from the hole in the canister going outside into my bumper......

I picked up my HP Racing Cyclone CAI for 127 shipped(3 day not 5 day ground) Off of Nopi.com just a thought. Excellent filter and all the bends are nice. powder coated I think. No bypass though:thumb:

everyone is beating this intake thing to death. How hard is it to get a tube with a filter? I hate to break it to you all, but an E-Bay 3" pipe with a K&N is going to give you the same ammount of power as a $250.00 Injen intake. IT'S A TUBE WITH A FILTER!!!!!! IT's NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!

LOL yea thats how i see it now, a tube is a tube nothing around it. i'll probably llok into the ebay tubes with a k&n filter, thanks for the help everyone, keep posting other ideas or comments:dsm:
