I'm sure that somebody's looked at this before, but when doing a search for SyTy, I didn't get jack shit. So here it goes.

I've recently found out that the GMC Syclone and Typhoon (bad ass turbo trucks from the early 90's) have a mitsu TD06 17g (maybe 18g;SyTy people call them 17g's, everywhere else says 18g, but I'm going to believe the SyTy's on this one). Anyway, When they upgrade their turbos, they sell these for DIRT. We're talking 150 bucks for low mileage turbos. Anyways, I am Mitsu turbo illiterate; I always get confused as to what TD05/TD06 etc mean. I know that 17g refers to the compressor side, and is not in question on this. Anyways, will the TD06 17G bolt to our manifolds and o2 housings?

Thanks,

Greg Heineken :talon:

can you give me some more details about your turbo and your manifold? Is it a straight garrett t04 or is it a hybrid that uses a mitsu turbine housing design? If it is straight garrett, are you running your stock exhaust manifold? I figure that if it bolts to a mitsu style manifold it will definitely bolt up there. I have also noticed that o2 housing seem to be interchangeable through most mitsu turbos; the stocker fits the 14b, 16g, 18g, 20g, etc, so why it wouldn't fit a 17g is beyond me.

Thanks,

Search 17c and 19c, and you'll get some answers.

Generally, they aren't used because they aren't very efficient. They have made decent passes (12's, I'm sure someone has been in the 11's with one) but it's just that there's other, better options.

As far as direct bolt-on, I'm not positive, but I'd venture to say no, they aren't a direct bolt-on straight off of the truck. You'll probably need another exhaust housing.

cold side- 17c TDO6
hot side- 8cm^2 TDO6

The exhaust housing will not bolt up to a dsm manifold, though the exhaust housing is attached using the same clamp as the 7cm^2/8cm^2 dsm exhaust housing.

This is more of a truck turbo, c series copressor wheels are designed for lower end, lower boost applictions. You're better off using a g series wheel.

The 8cm housing from the SyTy's will not bolt directly to a DSM manifold. The housing uses a T3 style inlet flange, and a 3 bolt outlet like the HRC super turbos 10cm housing. This is the exact housing.

OK, thanks guys. Just out of curiousity though, why does everyone on this side of the board think it is a 17 C, but everyone on the SyTy forums says it is a 17 G? Are they just incapable of reading the turbo? That's all I ever see posted on SyTy.net; 17g. Even in their facts, noob sections, etc.

There is no such thing as a 17G. The correct Mitsubishi part name is 17c. The Mitsu lineup consists of 14B, 16G, 17C, 19C, 18G, 20G 25G. Then there are some others in between for 3KGTs of I believe 9B, 12G, 13G, 15G.(not sure on all of these ones)

The SyTy guys are hoplessly incapable of turbo terminology. But we still love them :D

Uh WRONG! The stock turbo is a 17c. As I said before, there is no such thing as a 17G. Call up any turbo vendor and see what they say.

Oh, did you have any thing else to say? Didnt think so. I said above...Incapable.

God! It's almost painfull being this damn good! LOL!

If you look here: http://turbochargers.com/Turbos/TurboUpgrades/Syclone.htm

They also have it listed as a 20g. It's not. How does that stand for quality control?

That isn't the list of the stock turbo's that is the list of turbo's they offer for the SyTy.

http://turbochargers.com/Turbos/MitsuTurbos.htm

Look under GMC in this list as you will see a nice chart that looks like so. In that chart is seems to say 17C as the stock turbo and the UPGRADE they offer is a 20G.

DOn't forget your 12b (starion) and 13C 3k/S.

Sy Ty guys have difficulty with picture hosting/posting on their forums. They are always emailing eachother pics so someone can post them up... Not remotely surprising they have difficulty with Mitsu turbos. After all they are early 90's domestic guys... Love em but dang, time warp mods.

Real quick, is it possible that they put a "G" Type compressor wheel in there? "G" type wheels have uneven blades as "C" type wheels have even sized blades. Maybe GM just changed that aspect of the turbo.
