ok i have a 98 eagle talon esi 5 speed that i love and its pretty quick but i wanna go fast but im on a budget so im posting to get some info on cheap mods to get some more ponys out of my 420 i already have the cold air intake exhaust and ngk plugs so ### anyone and everyone leave your thoughts here....

Get on the laughing gas and call it a day, but.I doubt that's cheap. Want to go fast? It will cost money. How fast do you want to go?

so do you guys think it would be easier to just, go to the junkyard and buy a 4g63 and tear it apart. Then completely rebuild that and swap them out?

ok i know this i was asking if their were any mods worth doing to my 420, and their is not so i was asking if i should go with the 4g63 or maybe the v6 or any other motor! so your not making any sence...

You stated you are on a budget, there is nothing budget about swapping a 4g63 into a 420a car, they are not similar, they are not interchangeable without changing everything in front of the firewall and several things behind it, including but not limited to fabricating and welding new motor mounts. The only thing similar that can be swapped is a 2.4 from a chrysler Stratus/Cirrus/Breeze/Caravan from 95-01. Even that involves fabrication of the passenger motor mount and the oil pan to put it simply.

ok i didnt understand what you were getting at and i didnt mean just to go buy the motor tom and rebuild it the next day and put it in LOL, this will take a while but its that hard to pull a 2nd gen tsi motor and drop it into a 2nd gen esi body?

4g63 motors are oriented with the transmission on the passengers side. The 420a is oriented with the transmission on the drivers side. Yes it is possible, but it is NOT budget if you can't weld, grind, and fabricate. Even if you can, it is extremely time consuming.

It does not "drop" in. The turbo cars have a completely different front unibody than the non-turbo models. The frame rails are different, and the motor mounts are in completely different locations.

I was looking for a thread about a guy that used a GS shell to transfer all the parts from his rusty TSi into. Cant seem to find it, but the bottom line is unless you are very, and I mean VERY skilled with grinding and fabricating, then dont waste your time even thinking about it.

Edit: Found it

Hey this guy seems to think its easy, just browse through that. Just incase you dont read it all, he is not taking apart the interior just for fun, you have to swap the wiring harness from front to rear to complete this swap.

ok thank you guys so much cus i would of tried LOL and failed... but im new to dsm's i was a honda guy but wanted to go faster so went to the only thing that made since DSM... so looks like i need to sell my 98 esi and look for anything tsi, gsx, gst

or you can just put like 150 shot of nitrous to your motor!! but it wont last to long LOL if you really want to make horse power then yes get out of the 420a. i only did it because i wanted a challenge and something different. plus at the time i didnt care about spending money.

I dont understand why people don't just cut the whole front end off and swap it.

my GST was smashed so I took the GSX I parted out and used the front off of that.

I don't see why everyone just doesn't do that. I mean if there happened to be one in the junkyard or something because otherwise they would just take the gst/gsx.

Or, keep it as a DD and buy yourself a GS-T/X // TSi later down the line when your ready for it. If it ever breaks down ( which it does happen! ), you have the ESi to back you up. :)

420a's are really nice DD's. Horribly performance wise, but very nice on the MPG side. Been loving mine for two weeks now.
