Been around DSM's for a while, but never had the cash to do anything worthwhile.....until now. I opened my own auto repair shop last year so I finally have money to spend rather than eating Ramen noodles 5 days a week. The best part, is it is all a tax right off because its a company DEMO car. Well, on to the details.

Engine:

6 Bolt: Eagle Rods, JE 9.0:1, ARP Headstuds, Mitsu MLS, HKS 264, 1mm oversized valves, upgraded springs and retainers, Kiggly HLA, Avid Racing Billet mounts, Holset HX35W, FP race mani, Megan o2 Housing, Venom SMIM, Saturn 200amp Alt.

Fuel System:

FIC 750's, Fuelab FPR, Bosch 044 Fuel Pump, RCI Fuel Rail & FPR (-6 line throughout), 16 gal poly fuel cell.

Engine Management:

ECMLink V3 Speed Density, Innovative LC-1 WB, Prosport EVO gauges

Suspension/Steering/ Brake Mods:

Monroe Sensatrac Struts w/ Proline Springs, Toyota MR2 Electric Power Steering Pump, 3KGT front 4 pot calipers, Mustang Cobra 13" Rotors, Evo 8 Rear calipers and rotors.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. It is probably 2 months away from being completed. It needed a new core support which is now on. Have a bunch of pics that need to get uploaded, but here is a good start.

Bay gutted

Changed my mind, and got rid of the PTE GT3255E and put a Holset HX35 w/ BEP bolt on housing:

And I know I will get flamed for this, but It will RARELY see the street, and ONLY in nice weather for cars shows. Rest of the time its in my shop. EXTENSIVE structural bracing is being added:

Have a little start on the body, just a few dings filled and tank filler door shaved. Starting work on Fiberglassed dash, sub enclosure, and console this week.

Remember its your car so do it the way you want too and who cares what other people say about it Looks good so far!

Thank you and exactly. I know a lot of people will say, why not get a spyder? Well, I have a spyder....let me rephrase, i bought my wife a spyder, and she said I can't do ANYTHING to it besides maintenance. BOOOOOOOOO. So I said screw it and made my gsx how I wanted it to be. I have 3 other vehicles, so this CAN be a fair weather car.

Haven't updated in a while, so here we go.

Haven't touched the body, but went a lil nuts on the interior. I figured if it was going to be a company demo car, why leave the interior stock-ish......so I gutted it to prepare for a custom fiberglass dash, sub box where the back seat was, and trunk area for amp, batteries, and distribution blocks.

The cluster was deleted, heater control/ducting gone, and dash chopped to just a shell of where it meets the windshield and doors. All important engine info will be displayed by Prosport EVO gauges and a 10.1 Samsung Galaxy Tab running Torque App fed by a PLX Kiwi. The Galaxy Tab also doubles as ther heart of the audio/video/navigation system. Audio is then fed thru an Alpine media unit, then out to an MTX TE1501D and TE504. Lows will be handled by 2 MTX 8500 12" Thunder Squares, and mids/highs Focal 6 1/2" components.

The dash shape was formed with 3/4 mdf and stretched with fleece then glassed

I didn't take pics of the entire process, but here are some pics of the dash and box taking shape.

Tomorrow I will move to the trunk area and get that glassed.

WOW! I really like what you've done. definitely a step away from the "normal builds" we're all use to seeing over and over again (i have to admit i'm one of those builds LOL) But i really admire what you've done, from chopping the roof to the custom dash. It looks like you are dedicated to finishing it which is also nice (i've seen too may projects over the years on here that started out nice and then just dissapeared)

I'd love to see more detail on the roof chop and the bracing you added to accomodate it.

Thanks Glen.

I am very dedicated to finishing this. It WILL be COMPLETE by May 13th. That is the first local car show. I am entering it more for advertising, but I have always wanted to something outside the box. Never liked to comform, hence one High school year having 160 day in house suspension...LOL I've grown up alot since then.

Thats not all. there is a custom center console built as well. And you see the "trunk" area? That is actually a 90 Saab hood with a big section taken out of the middle to fit the width of the car. It is going to open just like it would if on a Saab. Pull the trunk release, and the back edge of the "trunk" pops up 2". Flip the safety latch, and it comes up another inch, then slides back, and then the forward edge flips up. Pretty damn slick if you ask me. HAHA

The main brace (2" DOM) so far is dual purpose...brace and 4 point harness bar. It goes from B pillar to B pillar about 3 inches below the window line. Then about 4 inches in on that bar (on each end) there is another bar that angles toward the center of the car.

I have to wait til it is all back together so I can get it on one of my lifts to x brace the undercarriage. Not exactly sure how i'm going to do it, but it will be done.

This is gonna be a long journey for you bro! I subbed I wanna see how great this car turns out to be!

Good luck! :)

No, no long journey. It WILL be done by May 5th. The 6th is the first local car show.

wow good luck with the build i so your gonna keep the "back seats" area or its gonna be more like a two seater?

Back seat is already in the trash. The Fiberglass sub enclosure is going where the back seat was

just ordered up carbon fiber door sills, a pillars, bumper intake hole covers, and wiper cowl w/out wiper motor holes......show car, no wipers needed right? LOL

Some more progress pics. Had to change the trunk idea. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the trunk lid to stop scratching the rear quarter panel when opening it. So Plan B.......cut it in half and the trunk now slides open with help from a linear actuator.

No new pictures, but a little update.

All wiring is complete.

All that is left is some finishing touches on body work and test fit panels. She will be ready for paint on Monday. Windshield goes in next Friday. Car show on the following sunday. Will get some more pics up as soon as I can.

She's all put together. Final go over tomorrow, then its off to paint.
