Personal update on Wendy.

Wendy received her first day of chemo today and faired exceptionally well. I believe that they may have found the right amount of pain medicine on her PCA pump. She is delivered dilaudid via her power port in her arm. They have changed the dosage 3 times since she left the hospital last Tuesday. She was able to take a trip to Wal Mart today. This is a milestone considering the fact that she has been at home or at the hospital for the last 3 months. I really hope this is a sign of improvement or at least total pain control.

I spoke to her Oncology Radiologist (Dr Nichols) today and he said something about a nerve block. He stated that it is something they do on pancreatic cancer patients beacuse of the sever pain they have. This would allow her to get completely off the narcotic meds. Dr. Nichols would have to talk with her Gynecological Oncologist ( Dr. G.). This is not a definate but I am excited to know he knows about her build and wants to see her behind the wheel.:hellyeah:

I think they fuel pump will arrive tomorrow and I will get it to WAR by Wednesday. Maybe if I can get some time away, I can get out there and install the fuel pump and start removing the tranny to get the right flywheel in there. It would be great to get it fired up before the weekend and get it to the dyno this weekend.:thumb:

Thanks to everyone for keeping this about what this is truly about. Wendys dream and how the community has come together. DSMs RULE and so are the people that drive them!

Best wishes,
Brad Pate

Glad to hear she see's light at the end of the tunnel! I always get very emotional reading through this thread, I was almost in tears by the amazement of how loving and caring DSM'ers can be towards other DSM'ers they've never even met.

Ok guys, please stop the conversation that Ryan started. Yes, he is entitled to his own opinion, whatever it may be, but him and Brad seem to be done with it, so there is no need for any more comments. If they're not done, they can take it to PM's. We stated at the beginning this thread wouldn't contain any BS, so please continue to do so.

Glad to hear things are working out with the new meds :)

I can't wait to see the car finished and fired up :thumb:

Another set back

Wendy didnt go to her chemo today beacuse of the severity of the pain. The hospice nurse came out and increased her basil rate ( hourly rate) and also he bolist rate ( breakthrough pain button). She got really bad news yesterday, grandfather died on the way to the doctor. He was shopping for Christmas yesterday morning, came home got a bite to eat and was leaving the house with Wendys mother. He just collapsed. His heart stopped and he stopped breathing. He was a no code, for those that dont know, its if he stopped breathing or heart stopped he asked not to be revived, He lived to the ripe age of 87. He lost his wife 2 years ago and has been mourning since.

Wendy was really close to her grandfather and Im sure that has alot to do with the way she felt today. We should have word on the nerve block tomorrow and get her behind the wheel within a few weeks if all goes well. THere is a preliminary date for next Friday to have this done.:pray::pray:

Pump was shipped Tuesday so we should have it by Friday. I am as ready and Im sure you all are on hearing this thing crank up. I will keep everyone posted when we get the fuel pump. Good times soon to come!

Best wishes,
Brad Pate

Great news! Did Wendy feel well enough to give it the 1st start up? All that's left is breaking the components in, some tuning, and then 10 second passes! I may have missed it throughout the thread but which track(s) will the car be this coming season?

brad, sorry so late for the reply. i do NOT want the kill switch back. it was givin' to you and wendy to use on the car. i know that plans change from one day to the next when building a car. i go through it every single day. just keep it around if something changes, or give it to someone else. i don't care, but thank you for asking, and god bless

Brad what was wrong with the aeromotive? Shawn said it was working fine when he took it off of the laser.

Sandra,

Im not quite sure what was wrong with it. I will be more than happy to send it back to you guys. It wouldn't power up. We just took that one out and put another one in it and she fired right up.

Big thanks again to Emery at STM and Tim at Punishment racing for getting the parts out.

Good News, Dyno will be either Wednesday or Thursday. I am waiting on Jordan at National Speed to call me in the morning to tell me which day they have more free time. HP numbers by the end of the week.:hellyeah::hellyeah:

Update: We are planning a day this week to see if Wendy can get this nerve block so she can get off the PCA pump. THis means she will be able to drive the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Woooooot!!!!

I will keep everyone posted as I know more on estimated completion time. THe cage needs to go in and we dont need the paint right now to make a pass. Times soon to come.:D

Best wishes,
Brad Pate

Some great news. Can't wait for the day when it all comes together & Wendy is at the wheel looking down the blacktop.

This is Great News! Glad to see the car started, it sounds mean :) Im working on a rough draft for that decal design we were talking about hopefully it will come out perfect!

Did Wendy get the flowers we sent out to her? They said it was going to be there for the 11th. God Bless as always and lets get Wendy behind the wheel!

Kevin,

She did get the flowers and that was just awesome for you guys to do that. They are beautiful. She has them in the kitchen so everyone can see them. The decal design I think is going to be awesome. Thanks again for helping put that together.

Wendy was so happy to hear the car start up. Funny thing is, we have a laptop and the sound quality isnt that great. She says " Why is it tapping?" I explained it was just the poor sound quality, plus the pain meds. hehe Things look good for the nerve block. I was contacted about an hour ago about it. We just have to sit down with the radiology team and go from there. Friday is the date for the block.:thumb:

Waiting to find out which day, Wednesday or Thursday for the dyno. I will let everyone know when I find out today.

Again, we cannot thank you guys enough for the outpour of support and all the kind things people have said to keep this inspirational.

Sincerely,
Brad Pate

Brad,

I heard you were at the race in nov. at the dragstrip in Fayetteville. Im sorry I didn't get to meet you. I didn't know you were goin to be there. I'm sorry to hear about wendy. I can only imagine what you are goin through. I would like to know when you guys might take the car to the track cause I would like to be there in person to see the car go down the track. I live in Fayetteville so its not that far where ever you may take the car. So if you can keep us informed that would be great. My prayers are with you, wendy and your families.

That's amazing! You better get some vid of Wendy pulling off that pass!

Keep your chin up, Girl! No better medicine than the sound of your OWN built beast firing up. Now...get down to the track and show those boys how us women play. ;) :thumb:
