Yea it's not worth the head ache you can fine a stock one for cheap. I got lucky my get was given to me by my girlfriends pops and all I did was put a 28,000 mile engine in it. Cost me about 3,000. Just fine a cheap one and fix it up yourself you will be more satisfied!

I found a '95 Talon ESi for sale on CL, talked to the owner and it is literally a mile from my house. It of course has the 420a motor (which I know nothing about, I've only owned 4g63's, and never owned a 2g), which is being pulled to put in his wifes Avenger. So basically it's just a shell with the trans, only thing I would need is another 420a to put in it. The interior was pretty nice, it's only missing the CD Player and headliner. The wheels are some old steel wheels, and theres only 1 spot of rust on the inside of a rear wheel well. There are a about 3 baseball sized dings, there not very deep, and they haven't broke any of the paint off yet. The only other issue with the exterior is that the roof is messed up. He is asking $300 for it, without the motor. Would this car be worth it? I don't know if I'd keep it or just fix it and sell it. Oh, the odo read 130,000 miles

I could probably haggle him down to around $200, and see what happened to his wife's motor which is still in her car. He said it was locked up and when he pulled it off the trailer oil was everywhere...

I am going to look at a 97 Eclipse GS-X today. The guy said he will take $5800. It has 130k miles. It is in really good shape (according to him and the pictures look good). It has a few mods which are: Apexi N1 Exhaust, Greddy BOV, FMIC (don't know what kind it's big though), HKS Turbo Timer, Thats all the aftermarket I can remmeber at the moment. I'm at school and the site it's on is blocked. It also has new tires, new clutch, and a new turbo. Please let me know what you think.

What would you guys pay for this? :D

THE BAD:
The lock cylinders on the car don’t work (jammed, seized?)
The sunroof seal seeps water during heavy rains/snows
The driver power window track needs cleaned and lubricated on the side nearest to the front of the car
The car takes 2-4 times cranking over ~1sec with the E85 to start when cold (it cranks fine, tuning issue?)
The acceleration throttle enrichment is too little during warmup (only first 1-3 minutes, tuning issue?)
The body is mediocre with some dents/dings and very little rust (looks like a 10-15 yr old car)

being a 2g with 130k its a likely candidate for "crankwalk" I would DOUBLE check maintenance records. $5800 is rather steep for a 2g GSX as well. Not to say that it could be a deal it would just have to be in top notch shape. Im probably going to have alot of people disagree with me but ive seen them here in Oklahoma going for 4k all day long. I paid $500 for mine it needs paint and it needed about 1200 to get it going but considering I can paint it myself and do all the work that just leaves the cost of parts. Its going to end up being a good investment.

Thats the key can you buy this car drive it w out major problems and still get rid of it in 4 years and not lose your tush :)

I would like to see the website if it says anything about the car and see the pics.

But I agree if it is in good condition go for it.

One other thought how old is the person who drove it? No offense to our younger drivers on here but unless the person looks like they would have taken care of it. and Was not a young kid, that was not an enthusiast then he may have run it into the ground and you would never know.

AGREE! I sold my first dsm because I couldn't stand the rust on it, it was not rusted through but the surface rust bugged me.
My second dsm is a rust free Florida car, but it was "rode hard and put away wet". I have been working on it for two years and still can not find a number of rattles and squeaks....

I think he wants too much for a 2g GSX with 160k @ $5800. 160k miles is kind of high in my opinion, and i don't think crank walk is the issue. I think it more prone to engine failure of some type because its getting up there in mileage. Plus theirs no telling how the previous owner drove it and took care of it. Personally i wouldn't give him anything more than $4800.

p.s. Plus he has only basic mods, so those do not make the value of the car go up.

wow i wish i could find a 2g gsx/tsx for 5800 here in PA.. they are all starting to go for 8/9k now that its getting close to summer

i would post some pics of the car, and if you can get some pics of the engine bay that would be nice

test drive it (obviously)

check all struts for rust!!

So my friend was driving around and spotted this absolutely gorgeous 92 Eclipse GS Turbo. I talked with the guy for about 2 hours and he is certainly no ricer idiot. I will spare you the essay and provide you with his craigslist ad...

91 Eclipse TRUBO ALL NEW!!

The guy would give me EVERYTHING HE OWNS for 4k. The body/paint is in better condition than mine. Seriously, the pictures do not do this car justice. Also, hew removed the bumper supports, pwr steering, and AC. The car is about 2500 pounds. I have a guy interested in my car and we agreed on 5700, I bought my car for 5700 and the guy also threw in a greddy FMIC kit. How good of a deal do you guys think this is? If it were you in my shoes, what would you do?

i would def jump on that especially if you have someone interested in yours

Seriously, I almost jizzed in my pants when i saw this car. The biggest thing holding me back was reliability. I dont wanna buy the car and have it break down on me the next week ya know?

Lol hands off dude! haha jp. Im hoping that this guy buys my car tomorrow or the next day.
