Hi all

I bought my car some time ago now, and I already discussed here about various issues I had since.

Two weeks ago, I lost all my oil. I discovered it was the oil cooler where the filter is located, the ¿bar? (I don't know the word, it's the steel 24 bolt that hold the oil cooler and where the oil filter is attached) was loose and the oil escaped beetween the cooler and the block. I tightened the ¿bar?, new filter, new oil, and everything was fine... until yesterday.

I am going to put a new gasket, ref md149370 if I am not wrong as my car is a 92.02.2 acording to Wincaps. Should I change something more?

BTW, my windows are awful. the window goes down a little bit slow, but if I try to close the windows I have to help them, the driver one needs a lot of strenght to go up, and when finishing it's way, the window goes out of it's path by the back corner. The passenger one need to be slowed down by the back corner also, if not, it will just got blocked.

My alternator is also about to die (only charging is possible when rpm > 2000) and my exaust manifold is cracked. ¿Replacement?

I do remember you all that I live in Spain, Europe. Went to the junkyard and when I speak about a car called "eclipse" the owner always think that I speak about a myth. Evo's are hard to find, but an evo 8 is going to fall on 8th of january to the junkyard.
¿Could I use something from the evo8 for my car?

thank you in advance.

Being in Spain, it is going to be very expensive for you to ship parts internationally, unless you can find one local.

1. I would just replace the gasket and make sure everything is torqued correctly.

2. Get a new window motor

3. Get a new alternator, but check wiring first.

All the parts I have installed in my car from the day I bought it, were sent from US.

European mitsubishi dealer is crazy. I preffer to order directly to the states, as you can't figure how much money I am saving.

How could I check if my alternator is really dead or if there is some wiring issue as blcknspo0ln states?

You can also just take the gasket from an oil filter, if it's easier to obtain. I replaced mine with the used gasket from my previous oil filter; it was only three months old. You also want to make sure that hollow bolt is tight enough. It's very common for those to come loose. It is intended to be tightened with a large hex wrench (12 or 14mm I believe), but if you don't have one, you can make a tool using a bolt with a 12 or 14mm hex head. I welded a nut to the end of a bolt, so I can tighten it with a regular wrench or socket. If you don't have a welder, you can just thread a nut onto a bolt that isn't threaded all the way up. Check it each time you change your oil, but be careful not to overtighten it.

I don't envy you when it comes to getting DSM parts in europe, but you should be able to use an alternator from one of those bad ass Cyborg Colts that you lucky bastards got over there.

The hollow bolt you spoke of, I bought the specific tool to tighten it. I did, but it has come loose again in just 15 days, that's why I am going to change the gasket between the cooler and the block. It is just like a regular gasket that come with the oil filter?

What are those Cyborg Colts you speak of?
Mitsubishi Motors España - Colt
that's the webpage of the current colt model being sold in my country, I hope it let you browse it even if it detects you are from the states...

Yes it's just a rubber oil filter seal.

You never heard of the Cyborg? You're going to kick yourself, then your going to go sell your DSM.
YouTube - 1989 Mitsubishi Mirage / Cyborg Turbo Television Commercial

That's an old ad for the AWD Cyborg. They were sold in Japan, Europe, Australia, New Zeland, but not in the USA. We were lucky enough to get a few of the FWD turbo models shipped here though. The great thing about these cars, is that the 4G63T 2.0L turbo DSM engine is a direct fit bolt in replacement for the 4G61T 1.6L turbo engine. Looking at the engines side by side, it would be almost impossible to tell them apart. Lots of the parts are identical, incuding the alternator. All you need to do is walk into your local auto parts store, and buy an alternator for a 4G61T powered Colt.

Here's my FWD 2.0 turbo Colt. It has forged internals, an EVOIII big 16g turbo, a FMIC, 3" exhaust, and 272 cams, among other things. It pulls like friggin crazy!

Ouch..... I live in spain. We never saw such a thing.
Maybe the 1.3 DOHC Suzuki sfit (Geo metro) or the mighty Nissan Micra 1.4 were the fastests eggs on the market.

If you go a little bit bigger, you got the Opel Astra GSI or the Opel Tigra(With the C20LET swap engine) as the baddest asses ever...

The C20LET engine (GM) is a 2 liter turbo engine very similar to the 4G63T but with ECU operated wastegate.

I will end by ordering an alternator to the states. My last chance is the "La torre" junkyard in Madrid. It's a necropolis where the street names are car manufacturer brands... I will post some pictures next time.

If I am lucky I might find a single or maybe two eclipses.... :tease:

Current colts are 1.1 or 1.3 gasoline, or 1.5 Turbo Diesel engine. 1.1 starts at 11.200€, damn cheap LOL

If I understand your one problem correctly it might be possible to do something like this to fix your oil filter housing.

I am having this same problem with the oil filter coming loose. Damn car shot out 3 quarts of oil on the freeway last Sunday. Luckily no damage. Now we used loc-tite on the bolt to keep it from coming lose. Does anyone know if that works too?

My car has not again disturbed me.

I did change the gasket that is beetween the oil cooler and the block (I also cleaned it before as brand new), I ordered the gasket but as it took too long to arrive, I used the gasket that comes with any oil filter of same size (I had one from a Ford Fiesta 1.8D that fitted ok brand new)
I also applied blue loctite (Screw retainer) on the hollow bolt, and installed a brand new oil filter.

That was four month ago, and everything is fine, I am still using the gasket from the Fiesta's oil filter.

I also discovered btw that the oil cooler from a Renault Megane (F8Q 694 engine) is totally compatible althougt it doesn't look anyway similar (Hint for Europe users as 4G63 N/A doesn't have an oil cooler).

Way to test alternators is to put a VOM across the battery when the car is in idle and see what the voltage is coming out of the alternator - which should be in the 13.8 to 14.2 volt range.

Anything different from these ranges - high or low - spells defective internal altnernator regulator.

I found the electric problem also.

My cas is fitted with ABS and LSD. According to the Hyunday's Sonata (these ones are equipped with 4g63 N/A) if no ABS, 75A. IF ABS 90A. I bought the car with a 75A, and was replacing it with a 75A. When I found the info of the sonata's, I tried a 90A from a sonata.

Everything is fine with my car, just have to find a 2g exhaust manifold ;)
