I just replaced the idler air control valve on my 97 mitsi eclipse gs 2.0 DOHC and when i start it up the RPM's fly through the roof at 4k..... is there anything i need to do to prevent this from running so high when i start the motor ?

Not to be insulting but check to make sure your throttle cable isn't to tight. I happened to me once after throttle body work. I couldn't figure out why my car was jumping straight to 5 grand and then I checked and saw that the throttle plate wasn't closing all the way.

This sounds like it COULD be the Fixed SAS [screw that controls the initial opening of the TB]. It might possibly be opened up instead of closed so too much air is allowed during your startup/idle. You should check to see where it's at and readjust if necessary.

HERE are the directions from VFAQ. It should be 1/3 down. Good luck! Post back with results.

Alright thank both of you for your input.... but the real problem with the idle was the PCV valve in between the valve cover and the intake manifold..... apparently there wasnt one on so i just put a straight hose to connect each other.... well that was the mistake there MUST be a PCV valve separating the two cause without it the intake was taking too much from the valve cover which in turn messed with the idle..... Thanks for all your input now the eclipse runs like a champ and chirps tires all the way up to 4th gear.
