I really didn't run into this problem too much except for my hood. I have my hood rolled down and i put in some gussets on the sides. I rolled as much as I could, then went back later after it had dried and got it with the roller brush, but with my hand not on the roller holder. I just dipped it into the paint and kind of dabbed it on. Not the best method, but it worked out pretty good. The sanding took care of the uneveness and after about 3 layers I got it pretty smooth.
