I have a 550+ whp 2nd gen awd dsm I have almost completed building. I don't want to spend a $1000+ on a twin disc setup. Which of these clutches would be best for daily driven street car that would also be a weekend warrior at the track. I looking for a clutch that can be slipped. Any other suggestions would be taken into consideration

your claiming you have a 2g AWD that has 550+whp but yet you have not finished the build  .....How did you get 550+whp ? What clutch did you use to make 550+whp just keep using the same clutch you have in your 550+whp 2g AWD :thumb:

Anyways besides the claims ACT2900 is better then the 2600 I have always used ACT
I can't say anything over the SBR clutch becuase I have never used it

My car made 502 whp on a 93/110 octane mix on 25 psi, and I have been using a SBR 4000 for about 6 months now with no problems whatsoever. I have pushed the car up to 28 psi on 110, and should be close to 550 whp also with no problems from the clutch. It is very streetable and I was told it would hold over 600whp with no problems. So far I would have to agree.

I also ran an SBR 3500 on my GST with a Big T28 on 20psi with no problems, but that's not really comparable to the power you want the clutch to hold. Overall, I have had great results with SBR clutches in two of my cars. ACT has had some problems in the past, and that worried me, so I am glad I found a great alternative.

I had good luck with my old clutch setup consisting of a Fidanza flywheel combined with an ACT 2600 pressure plate, and a South Bend Performance sprung kevlar disk.

It was extremely smooth, non chattery, and slippable. It acted like a street disk, with the bite of a 6-puck under fast shifting. I ran 11.0's @ 133 with that clutch with no problem.

I also had excellent wear characteristics out of it -- over 100 dyno pulls (most of those pulls well over 500AWHP), 100+ track passes and over 30K miles on it before I replaced it (and it still wasn't dead yet). I never had a slipping issue on the dyno, and I only had issues with disengagement under extreme hot lapping at the track. Once it cooled back down, it worked just fine.

I also had excellent customer service/shipping/etc from these guys over several purchases with them.

Also, when you do finally realize that a single disk is not the best option, and you are ready to spend $1000 on a clutch setup, I have had excellent results with my Quartermaster twin disk setup. It is also much lighter than my single disk setup was, and can hold much more torque too.

Either way, good luck.

thanks for your non-informative post GST eclipse. You answered my question with another question. One of the clutches you have not even used before, then you told me about a cluch I was not even inquiring about.

your welcome , and yet still to answer my question of which clutch are you using to put down your claimed 550whp ?

As for a clutch your not inquiring ...you said ACT2600 and I told you a ACT2900 is Better , stronger ..then the ACT2600 how is this not helpful info towards a ACT clutch you where asking about ?

I have had a ACT2600 that lasted for years, and when it went I got the ACT2900 and it a world of diffrence even in pedle pressure

I can't chime in on a SBR4000 or any other clutch that SBR has becuase I don't and have not run it and I don't plan too anytime soon so I can't give any info on somthing I haven't used

WHP is not whats going to kill the clutch , TQ is the thing thats going to kill the clutch !

An act 2900 is not a very streetable clutch. Just because the act 2900 is a "BIG NUMBER" does not necessarily make it better for my certain application. I said 550+whp because I was going by the setup and parts that I have. Read rule number 2 & 3 in the "Before You Reply" section before you make another post.

The 2600 will not hold up to much abuse is a heavy 2nd gen AWD above 500 HP, neither will our 4000 clutch kit.

The 2900 and our 4500 would be better suited for this type of HP, however I would prefer to see you in a twin disc set up. The main reason I say this, is it will most likely be the last clutch you have to buy, and even if you burn up a disc or two we can sell you replacement parts.

All my .02 of course, and we can save you a few $ on a twin disc if you call us.

Happy New Year!

I have had a couple friends putting down huge numbers using the twin disc setup have problems with breaking transmissions. One broke 2 Shep transmissions before going to an ACT 4-puck and he loves it. Surprisingly streetable he said. Know of a couple other people using the 2900 and love it.

Well, if they had improper clutch disengagement from their twin disks, this would result in transmission breakage, along with making alot of torque.

Heck, I broke 5 trannies this year alone, but I am also around 600+ torque with my current setup in a full weight car. That is asking alot out of any tranny other than a dogbox.

The MOI is much better with the twin disks and also provide much better disengagement properties than any single disk setup I have seen, when installed and adjusted properly.

The Powertrain Technologies/Quartermaster twindisk setup is what I am running with EXCELLENT disengagement properties. I hope to never have to purchase a different setup again (other than replacement parts). 12# for the entire clutch/flywheel assembly for my 7-bolt using a 1-piece chromoly PTT flywheel and Quartermaster V-Drive 7.25" twin disk setup. This is >6# lighter than my ACT 2600/SBP kevlar disk/Fidanza flywheel setup.

Yes the quartermaster's are the best, my mechanic is making over 600+whp and he said he can shift flawlessly at 10,000 rpms if he wanted to.

Not trying to jack the thread but im going to be making 350whp or a little more and dont want to go with ACT from bad experience's. Would the 4000 be a good one for me too look into?
