Has anyone cam across a cylinder head like the one I am working on right now, that has the cam caps stamped with R on the exhaust side and L on the intake side? This head I removed from a 90nt but I'm wondering if its from something else, since it is the first one I've come across marked left and right instead of intake and exhaust. An example is R1,R2,R2,R3, etc and L1,L2,L3, etc. Weirdness.WTF :dsm:

I have seen that a couple of times but only on the 90 models. Every 91 and up I have ever looked at are marked I and E. I think the L and R were used on early prodution model heads only.

Thanks guys, I just was curious. Out of all of the many heads I've had apart I had'nt ran into this until now. The weird thing is that the only way that the exhaust would be on your right is if you are standing BEHIND the engine looking out. From the cam cog side it would be bass ackwards!

Yea it was the same on my 90 as well L on the intake and R on the exhaust.
I think the other years have I and E on the caps. Would make better sense.

Well, just like the chassis, the motor doesn't change. The flywheel's the back and the water pump's the front. Then left and right, respectively.

Unless it's some of the Saabs, and then the clutch is on the front, the water pump in on the side and.... o, never mind.
