Hello, about two weeks ago I picked up this 1996 eagle talon tsi. The miles are unknown and are the reapirs. Right when I took it home I gave it a fresh oil change. I traded my 03 tiburon gt for this car. It has been the best choice I made so far. Don't get a tiburon i hated mine, it began giving me so many problems after 100k miles. So i decided it was time to go turbo. The main reasons I got this car is because I am going to UTI to learn everything about cars automotive/diesel tech. I start July 29th! So time is flying by and I cant wait to learn! My plans are to build this car up while i am in college. I am allowed to use the shop for personal cars as long as it relates to the topic we are learning! I am currently only 18 years of age and know very little about building cars...but im getting there slowly. Here is my car so far and what I have done!

Things I have done: Cleaned it up real good, and redid the headliner. I think it looks pretty good for a first timer!

Thanks a lot man! I had a 99 eclipse n/t before this and the 4g63 is a lot better I THINK. Trying to make it mine still

Do i really? How do you know that?

Thank you, i think it was a good trade as well :)

? idk haha, i am still a noob at all of this. It does has a aftermarket BOV. I was told the car is only set at 10psi due to have to upgrade the fuel system to run more boost. Thats about all i know about the car.

its fine i'm not going to bash you for that. I was a noob like you before but know you have a bigger turbo than the stock one I would try to find out which one it is. Just take off the intake and take a picture of the blades and maybe I can help you out

Here she is! It was really easy to take the intake out every clamp was just right so that you could take it out with ease. Car was def worked on. There is also some oil in the intake. Normal?

adam that's bad only because it probably wont last long and we wouldn't want that turbo to blow up on you but your ok for now at low boost. i'd be looking for another turbo soon

If I were you id invest in a tuning program. Regardless of a new turbo going on, you still cant do anything with it because your injectors are still squirting for a stock T25.

I recommend ECMLink. Its a 500$ program new but can be found in its earlier versions from 200$. 500 seems steep but when you think of other options (like piggyback) youre paying for the program, a cable, a datalogger, and install which comes out right at what youd pay for ecmlink and link has ALL of those features and they are done SO right. Not to mention it makes the tuning process much much safer w/ the capability of setting your knock count to your CEL light.

Another important tool for tuning is a Wideband o2 gauge which will display your air:fuel ratios in car so you can make sure youre not running rich/lean at all times, which is imperative at wide open throttle.

As for learning about these cars, start googling. Everything.

Youre also going to want to start doing the necessary maintenance. Start with a full timing job. These are interference motors so when the timing belt snap it trashes the head. You will need atleast a NEW oem or Gates timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt tensioner pulley. Ive always gone with Extremepsi.com 's kit. Its 300$ for everything to help you sleep good at night and ships to your front door. Youre going to need a new OEM water pump to go in at the same time, as its accessed through the timing side and would be dumb not to do it while youre there.

Also check your cv axel boots, change out transmission/transfer case/diff fluids. Check all fuel lines and coolant lines for corrosion.

Your next step should probably be a boost leak test though. It is extremely inexpensive and will show you all of the places you have boost leaks which is like a vacuum leak on a turbo car.

You will pressurize your intake system to 5 lbs over what boost youre running on the streets and spray all parts that see boost w/ soapy water. Bubbles will reveal leaks, you then tighten something, replace an o-ring or a seal and re-test. It takes 3 or 4 corrections and retests to rule any out.

I can go ahead and let you know that youre going to need lower injector seals, and a biss o-ring as those are always neglected.

If at any point you got lost in my short story above, please google as there are 127890189204820934's of threads w/ people just like you who have simple questions that need simple answers. Although I do not mind answering ?'s that have already been answered in another thread, the same does not go for fellow tuners and 80% will get butt hurt and tell you to use google before posting.

Also if you havent noticed there is a member rating system. Not saying everyone here doesnt know what theyre talking about, but if you see a "DSM Wiseman" or Proven Member with 4000 posts and good reputation you can likely take their advice.

edit: If I were you I would find a T25 (stock 2g turbo) to run while you do the necessary maintenance. maintenance > mods, maintenance > mods, maintenance > mods, maintenance > mods, maintenance > mods.
